Royal C. Young Educational Trust
Scholarship
Proceeds from the estate of Royal C.
Young endowed this fund for deserving
underprivileged students. Particular consideration
will be given to students of
minority groups, such as Black Americans,
Mexican Americans, and American
Indians.
Dr. James A. Zambus Memorial
Scholarship
This scholarship was established in
memory of Dr. James A. Zambus, Professor
in History at Hardin-Simmons University
from 1958 to 1976, by his sister Mrs.
W. H. Terry of East Point, Georgia; Kiwanis
Club of South Abilene; and other friends.
The amount will be determined by the
annual earnings of the fund. Recipients
are chosen from among history majors at
the University according to scholarship,
worthiness, and need.

Anonymous Grant
An anonymous gift to Hardin-Simmons
University makes possible a grant of $200
a year ($100 per semester) for a worthy
and needy student.
Bertha Barber Memorial Loan Fund
This fund was established by Bob and
Mary Barber of Tucson, Arizona in memory
of his mother. The loan will carry a six
per cent interest charge per annum and
will be due within three years after graduation.
The recipient will be required to have
a co-signer. The loan is not to exceed
$500, and arrangements should be made
through the Financial Aid Office.
Diana BeLais Grant
This endowed fund was made possible
by a gift from Mr. Rupert H. Johnson, an
honorary trustee of Hardin-Simmons University,
in memory of Mrs. Diana BeLais of
New York City, who was an accomplished
pianist. The recipient of the grant will be
selected by the Student Aid Committee
upon recommendation of the School of
Music. The recipient must be a female student
studying piano or voice, or both, preferably
piano.Conn Bentley Memorial Grant
This grant was endowed in 1974 by Mr.
and Mrs. B. C. Bentley and lan Bentley in
memory of their son and brother. An
award of at least $200 will be made in
each of the fall and spring semesters, or
one may be awarded for the summer
term.
The award is to be made to a future
teacher who has made a definite commitment
to certification in the field of special
education. The recipient will be selected
by the Student Aid Committee upon recommendation
of the Dean of the Irvin
School of Education on the basis of dedication
to this field of teaching and a need
for financial aid. Postgraduates and graduate
students will be eligible as well as
undergraduates, and special consideration
will be given to previous holders of the
award.
Couch Grant o
Dan R. Couch of Lubbock has endowed
six grants, three in memory of Mrs. Alice
Pierson Couch and three in his own
name.
Cowden Grant
The heirs of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Cowden
(Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Brownlee, Mrs. Carrye
C. Payton, Mrs. Birdie C. Spaulding, and
Mr. and Mrs. John E. Hays) have established
an endowed grant which provides
$450 per year. The recipient must be a
worthy student in need of financial aid.
Duffy Grant R
This grant was endowed by Mrs. B. A.
Duffy and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Wilkins of
Abilene. It provides more than $10,000
per year for distribution in grants. The
recipients will be chosen on the basis of
worthiness and need, with preference
given to students from Haskell County.
Endowed Nursing Student Loan Fund
Loans for students currently enrolled in
the Abilene Intercollegiate School of Nursing
are available for up to $2,000 per year.
No interest is charged for the loan so long
as the recipient retains his or her status as
a full-time student in the Abilene Intercollegiate
School of Nursing or is substantially
employed as a practicing nurse after_
