36 STUDENT FINANCIAL AID
Hendrick Medical Center Auxiliary
Nursing Scholarship
Applicants for this annual scholarship of
$600 shall be employees of Hendrick
Medical Center, their children, or spouse.
The applicant must be enrolled or planning
to enroll in the Abilene Intercollegiate
School of Nursing. Application blanks may
be obtained from the Dean of the School
of Nursing or Volunteer Service at Hendrick
Medical Center.
Hendrick Medical Center
Scholarship/Loan Program
This student scholarship/loan program
is administered through the Director of
Personnel at Hendrick Medical Center.
Applications must be submitted at the
beginning of each semester. The program
is available to nursing students of the Big
Country who are in their junior or senior
year. The HMC Scholarship/Loan gives
students who require financial assistance
the opportunity to apply for a cumulative
total of $3,000 to help with expenses during
their last two years of nursing school.
The HMC Scholarship/Loan Program
emphasizes employment at Hendrick
Medical Center after graduation.
Jesse H. Jones and Mary Gibbs
Jones Grant
The Houston Endowment, Inc., a philanthropic
corporation endowed by Mr. and
Mrs. Jesse Jones, makes available to the
University certain funds to be awarded as
grants "to young men and women of outstanding
ability who need financial aid."
The amount of the award ranges from
$150 to $300 per year depending upon
individual need. These awards are made
annually with special consideration given
to previous holders.
Pegg Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was made available for
the first time in 1978. It was provided from
the Pegg Estate and payments are made
through the Baptist General Convention of
Texas. The payout will be approximately
$375 per year. The recipient must be of
outstanding character, demonstrate financial
need and maintain at least a 2.50
GPA. Preference will be given to a Religious
Education major.Presser Foundation Scholarship
The Presser Foundation, Presser Place,
Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, makes a matching
grant of $500 per year to an outstanding
senior music major. The total $1,000
award is made to a junior student, near the
end of the spring semester, in a public
ceremony, and the student is designated
as the "Presser Scholar" for the following
year.
1. The recipient or recipients in each institution
shall be selected by the President
and the Dean of the School of
Music, who shall be guided solely by
consideration of merit.
2. A student who is the recipient of a
Presser Foundation Scholarship must
pursue a curriculum in which not less
than approximately one-third or more
than approximately two-thirds of his
work will be in music, including
courses in theoretical and practical
music, such as: Sight Reading, Dictation,
Theory, Voice, Piano, Organ,
Orchestral Instruments, History of
Music, Appreciation, Methods of
Teaching, Practice Teaching and Conducting.
Approximately one-third of
the student's work must be in academic
subjects.
These scholarships are provided
annually and subject to renewal each year
by the Presser Foundation.
Herbert M. Preston Scholarship
for String Players
Established by friends and former students
in honor of Dr. Preston, Professor of
Strings at Hardin-Simmons University from
1934 to 1957, the scholarship will be allocated
by the School of Music Scholarship
Committee as funds from the endowment
are available.
Myrtie Atwood Reid Memorial
Endowed Student Aid
This fund was established in 1982 by
J. W. Reid (HSU '21) in memory of his wife.
Proceeds from this fund will be used for
scholarship grants and loans to worthy
students. Selection of student recipients
will be made by the Student Aid Committee
based on the established need, scholarship,
and Christian character._ __ __ _
