least one semester at the University and
who qualify academically and musically
are eligible for membership.
Sigma Delta Pi, Beta Sigma Chapter,
national Spanish honor society, requires
18 semester hours of Spanish with a B
average and an over-all grade point average
of 2.75.
Sigma Tau Delta, Xi Epsilon Chapter,
national literary fraternity, is open to English
and journalism majors and minors of
junior or senior rank who have exceptional
scholastic records.
Speech Honor Society, requires 9
hours in speech communication courses
with a B average and an over-all grade
point average of 2.50.
SOCIAL CLUBS
Social clubs promote leadership and
character, sponsor service projects,
emphasize social involvement and promote
scholastic excellence. Close friendships
are made among club members.
Basic requirements for membership: an
invitation from the club to pledge, completion
of twelve semester hours, enrollment
in at least twelve semester hours per
semester, a grade point average of 2.00
(C), and freedom from scholastic or disciplinary
probation.
The six social clubs include three for
women and three for men.
ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
The Hardin-Simmons Alumni Association
is composed of all former students.
The Alumni Association Executive
Board consists of the officers, officerselect,
past presidents of the Association,
and the Director of the Alumni Association.
Officers are elected a year in
advance by mailed ballots.
Homecoming is the official meeting of
the Association. Other annual events
sponsored by the Association are Distinguished Alumni Awards Day, Founders
Day, Faculty-Staff Appreciation Dinner,
Graduating Seniors Luncheon, and state
and nation-wide Baptist convention
fellowships.
The Range Rider is the official publication
of the Association.
All gifts from alumni are administered
through the University Office of Advancement.
The operating budget of the Association
is appropriated by the University.
The Alumni staff maintains records and
communications with alumni, administers
alumni business and projects, and assists
in formation and coordination of local HSU
Alumni Clubs. The Association works
closely with the development and student
recruitment programs.
CAREER PLANNING AND
PLACEMENT
The University provides a comprehensive
career planning and placement service
for graduating students who are
entering the market for full-time employment,
and alumni who desire to make a
change in employment. These services
are available through the Office of Career
Planning and Placement Services, located
on the second floor of Moody Center.
Placement files may be established by
all who seek employment assistance. References
and biographical information are
retained by the placement office for use
by the student at any time. Interviews are
scheduled with prospective employers
from business, governmental agencies,
and educational institutions.
Counseling and testing are provided for
students undecided about career plans,
and for graduates and alumni needing
assistance in job search techniques.
No charge is made for initial use of the
placement services. Should a person wish
to send more than three placement
packets to prospective employers, a small
charge is made for each additional
mailing.*W.
