(French, German, Spanish)A working knowledge of a second language
is an important means of expanding
communications among peoples. It
transcends cultural barriers and, in an
increasingly interdependent world, can be
- tantamount to success. Furthermore, second
language study allows for greater
diversity of thought in all disciplines and
can lead to an increased appreciation of
one's native tongue.
The Department of Foreign Languages
offers a major and minor for the study of
- Spanish and, through a cooperative
arrangement with Abilene Christian University
and McMurry College, a major and
minor for the study of French and German.
The department encourages all students
to fuse concentrations in other disciplines
with second language work.
m Objectives
The objectives of the Foreign Language
Department are: (1) to develop audio-oral
skills in the modern foreign languages; (2)
to provide a foundation in the morphology,
syntax, vocabulary, literature and culture
of the target language; (3) to prepare students
for the teaching profession, other
foreign language-related careers, and
advanced study; (4) to provide graduate
study.
Note:
No correspondence work will be
counted toward foreign language
