Finnell Calls
For Emphasir
On Speckf Ed
Noting his long-standing
efforts to improve public
education in Texas, State
Rep. Charles Finnell has
called for greater emphasis
for special education pro-
grams.
The Dist. S3 Representative
made these comments prior
to attending the midwinter
conference of the Council for
Exceptional Children last
Saturday at Midwestern
State University in Wichita
Falls.
"For too long have our
disabled children and our
gifted children been over
looked by most of our
citizens," Finnell said.
Finnell served as a judge In
the annual patriotic oratori-
cal contest for high school
students sponsored by the
Tbomas-Fowler Post of the
American Legion in Wichita
Falls.
Last Sunday the Holliday
native attended a reception
in Graham honoring Mike
Malone, the new director of
the Young County Outreach
Center. Lauding the
purpose of the center,
Finnell said the county is
fortunate to have Malone
serve as the project’s
director.
The area legislator was also
one of some seven thousand
persons who attended the
annual University Kiwanis
Gub Pancake Festival last
Saturday in Wichita Falls.
Proceeds from the affair will
go to worthy club projects.

TELEPHONE
ASSURANCE MINISTRY
The First Baptist Church of Archer
City is beginning a new ministry in
our community known as the
“Telephone Reassurance Mlinistry.”
This ministry is designed to meet the
needs of the many in Archer City who
are home-bound. It involves calling
on the telephone each day, those who
cannot get out of the house. In so
doing we will be aware of various
needs and other avenues of ministry
will be opened. It should also prove
valuable to the safety of the
home-bound. There are others in our
town who may not be home-bound,
but would greatly appreciate a call
each day from someone who cares. If
you would like to know more about
this ministry, or if you would like to
participate as one being called, or as
a caller, please contact the First
Baptist Church at 574-4923, or the
director of this ministry, Christine
Moore, at 574-4129. It matters not
what your church affiliation may be.
It only matters that you have a need,
and Christ wants to meet that need
through us.

audience Jan. 5 in Washing-
ton, D.C. Chaloupka said,
"Bergland agreed to have
the U.S. Department of
Agriculture work with Farm
Bureau and other organiza-
tions to expand dollar sales
abroad. The secretary
reported that the United
States is now working to
lower tariff barriers on
American beef coming into
Japan."
He expressed the general
feeling that the marketplace
and not government" is the
answer to the farm crisis in
the United States.
In a question and answer
session Chaloupka was
asked about the Farm
Bureau’s position regarding
the Agricultural Movement
and Farmers Strike across
the country. Chaloupka
answered he could only
speak as president of the
organization and the Con-
vention Resolutions were
that "Farm Bureau would
not and could not legally
back any strike."
