John Lowe, Jr.Interviewer: Ronald E. Marcello
Place of Interview: Milford, TexasDr. Marcello:
Mr. Lowe:Date: August 7, 1978
This is Ron Marcello interviewing John Lowe, Jr.,for
the North Texas State University Oral History Collection.
The interview is taking place on August 7, 1978, in
Milford, Texas. I'm interviewing Mr. Lowe in order to
get his reminiscences and experiences and impressions
while he was aboard the oiler USS Neosho during the
Japanese attack at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.
Mr. Lowe, to begin this interview, just very
briefly give me a biographical sketch of yourself. In
other words, tell me when you were born, where you
were born, your education--things of that nature. Just
be very brief and general.
I was born on February 3, 1920, in the city of Dallas,
Texas. I was born and reared in Dallas and grew up in
Dallas and graduated from Sunset High School in 1938.
I attended the North Texas Agricultural College at Arling-
ton for a year-and-a-half when it was a junior college.
In between that time, I worked at Sears, Roebuck and
Company to gain enough money to continue to go to school.
