SHERMAN - In November 1999, the Chapter hosted District 11
Vice President John Greer and TXSSAR President Frank Gibson. Com-
patriot Greer gave an informal presentation describing how Chapters
can improve their public image. Events that already have press atten-
dance were stressed, such as school board meetings, city council meet-
ings, county commissioner's meetings. President Gibson gave an in-
spired lecture detailing "How to become an effective Officer/Presi-
dent in the SAR". See the Fall 1999 edition of The Compatriot for the
text of the presentation. President Gibson presented Chapter President
Taylor a Silver Good Citizenship Medal for his many years of hard
work on the State, District and Chapter level. The Chapter noted with
great sadness, the death of two Compatriots, Robert Varley King and

Mar. 2nd our Chapter Color Guard in Uniform joined the SRT Color Guard
for the program: "The American Revolution meets The Texas Revolution" honor-
ing Texas Independence Day.
Mar. 14th at the 6:00 AM Mayor's Breakfast; our Color Guard performed
"Presentation of our Colors" with Gen. Charles Duke, etc at the Civic Center.
Mar. 14th Chapter Meeting: Installation of Officers: President Tom Green;
V.P. Joe Cox; Sec. Wayne Justiss; Treasurer Pat Parks; Reg. Cliff Caskev; and Chap-
lain Myles Kuykendall.
Mar.17-18-19 members who attended the State Convention in Abilene included
V.P. Robinett; President Green; p.V.P Motz and p.P. Justiss. Chapter members par-
ticipated with 16 other Color Guard Members in uniform. They assisted in all
phases on the State Program.
Mar. 27th V.P. Robinett presented program "Your TXSSAR" at Burleson Chap-
ter.
Mar. 31st Members participated in a program in Fredericksburg at the State
Flower Gardens
Apr. 1st Color Guard attended the Republican County Convention present-
ing Colors and a Program.
Beginning in April-May,2000 we carry our SAR Color Guard programs to
SWTS University ROTC units and all seven area high schools in presenting our
SAR ROTC medals and awards.

PLANO - The Compatriot would like to extend special thanks to Compatriot

Compatriot John Greer took about 400 magazines to the Bonham VA Hospi-
tal on Monday, April 17, 2000.
Plano Chapter President Don Rector spoke to the Christ United Methodist
Church Fellowship Group on April 13,2000 about the anniversary of Paul Revere's
1776 ride. The meeting was at the Monkok Chinese Restaurant in Richardson
with about 53 people in attendance.
During the evening of April 11, 2000, Compatriot Jack Haughton was the
guest speaker at the regular meeting of the Peters Colony DAR. Jack advised the
ladies of current SAR activities and invited them to sponsor new SAR members.
The ladies were delighted with Jack's presentation of a report on the "Other Tea
Parties" in the early days of the Revolution. As part of his program, Maryanne
Haughton had prepared a tray of Edenton Tea Biscuits, made using a 226 year old
recipe. During the DAR Chapter business meeting the ladies discussed their plans
for their 10th anniversary year, beginning with their May 9th meeting and the
renewal of their chapter charter. The SAR was asked to provide a Color Guard
detachment for the program.
Chapter meeting was April 11, 2000. Steven W. Stouss, head of volunteers at
the Dallas VA Hospital was the speaker.SPRING 2000
