On Friday, March 24th, Compatriots Sonny Campbell, Jack Haughton
and Don Rector presented the TXSSAR "Outstanding American History
- Teacher" certificate to Ms. Janel Wood at Carpenter Middle School in Plano.
Ms. Wood previously won first place in the Plano Chapter contest and
was presented the Bronze Good Citizenship medal by Sonny Campbell.
She also won first place in the TXSSAR state contest. She will go on to
attend the Freedoms Foundation Workshop at Valley Forge, PA this sum-
mer.Plano was well represented at the Annual TXSSAR meeting in Abilene.

Compatriots Don Rector, Peter Rowley, Mike Radcliff (in uniform) and
John Greer attended the Denton Chapter meeting April 6th. Dr. James
Johnson was sworn in by TXSSAR President Dick Arnold as the new Chap-
ter President. Also attending were Compatriots Barkley Miller and Jack
Haughton. Part of the program was the celebration of the TXSSAR Color
Guard adoption of a cockade, which is made and distributed by the Denton
Chapter. The Color Guard posed for pictures showing the cockade on their
hats.
On Wednesday March 29th, Compatriots Gene Barr, Sonny Campbell
and Mike Radcliff worked as judges for the History Fair at the Rose Haggar
Elementary School in Plano.Chapter meeting was March 21, 2000. The new chapter officers were
installed by TXSSAR President Dick Arnold.
A delegation of compatriots from the Plano Chapter attended the state
SAR convention in Abilene, Texas during March 17-19, 2000.
On Wednesday, March 1st, 2000, Compatriots Sonny Campbell, Jerry
Dalton, Lynn Fussell, Mike Radcliff and George Tidmore were judges for
the History Fair held at Brinker Elementary School in Plano.
On Thursday and Friday, February 17 and 18, 2000, Compatriots Don
Rector and Mike Radcliff of the Plano Chapter Color Guard, participated
with Dallas Chapter Color Guard members in four separate ceremonies
just prior to a concert of the Plano Symphony Orchestra held for the ben-
efit of area students at Prestonwood Baptist Church.
Chapter meeting was February 8, 2000. Awards were presented to the
winners of the SAR Americanism contests. The new chapter officers for
the new SAR year were elected.
On Sunday, February 6, 2000, Compatriots John Greer, Barkley Miller,
and Mike Radcliff served as Judges at the Regional Oratory Contest held
at the Harrington Library at 2 P.M. The Chapter's Oratory Contest winner,
Kallie Granville, was the runner-up in this competition. Second Vice Presi-
dent Willie Walker arranged for Kallie and her parents to come to the Chap-
ter meeting next Tuesday, February 8, 2000, to receive her Oratory Medal,
Certificate, and U.S. Savings Bond.
On Sunday, January 30, 2000, Compatriots John Greer, Barkley Miller,
John Radcliff, and Mike Radcliff, served as Judges, and Compatriot Don
Rector served as timekeeper, of the Chapter Oratory Contest held at the
Harrington Library at 2 P.M. Second Vice President Willie Walker orga-
nized and presided over the event, with the winner being announced and
going on to the Regional Contest to be held next Sunday, February 6, 2000,
at Harrington Library, at 2 P.M.
On January 13th, 2000, the speaker for the TXSSAR East Fork-Trinity
Chapter meeting in Garland was Compatriot Jack Haughton. Jack spoke
about the role of the Colonial Militia and the revolutionary Minutemen in
the battles of Lexington and Concord.
Chapter meeting was January 11. Dr. Mary Lynn Johnson of Denton
talked about- colonial cooking. She presented some recipes and brought
some tasty colonial cake and cookies that she cooked.
On Tuesday, January 11, 2000, Compatriots Mike Radcliff and Don Rec-
tor formed part of the Color Guard taking part in a flag presentation at
White Rock North School in Dallas, Texas. Compatriots Radcliff and Rec-
tor, as part of the North Texas Color Guard Militia, joined Dallas Chapter
Compatriots Dick Arnold and Cliff Slagle, together with Compatriot
George Tidmore and Plano Chapter President Barkley T. Miller, in pre-
senting both Texas and United States flags to School Principal Amy Adams
during an assembly at which Barkley's daughter, kindergartner Catherine
T. Miller, accepted the flags on behalf of the School and Principal Adams.
Commander Arnold gave a short talk on the SAR and its traditions and
goals.
On Tuesday, January 11, 2000, Compatriots Jerry Dalton, Barkley T.
Miller, Mike Radcliff, Don Rector, and George Tidmore, gave magazines
donated by the Chapter to the Veterans Hospital in Dallas at a ceremony
attended by the Hospital's Director of Volunteers.

BRYAN - At the February meeting, Compatriot Elton Lacey was pre-
sented with his membership certificate. Compatriot Gus Baker received a
supplemental and Compatriot Charles Ellis was recognized for his hard
work on the Chapter website (http://www.rootsweb.com/-txsaric/).
