AIDS National Interfaith Network, a national network of more than 85
ministries/religiously based community organizations, seeks to promote the
formulation of HIV/AIDS education and outreach through the religious
communities of the United States. At its 2nd Annual Conference on
HIV/AIDS held in Chicago, Illinois, more than 175 individuals from
throughout the United States gathered for workshops related to HIV/AIDS
and its impact on the religious communities of the United States. Staff
from AIN lead several workshops during the conference designed to share
with others from around the country what is being done in the Dallas/Fort
Worth/Denton area. The Reverend Charles Carnahan, Executive Director of
AIN was elected to the Board of Directors of AIDS National Interfaith
Network. Also, Stefanie Held, member of the Board of Directors of AIN and
Executive Director of Open Arms, Inc., was recognized for her personal
leadership in ministering to women and children impacted by HIV/AIDS.
AIN provides spiritual/emotional support and practical support to
persons living with HIV/AIDS (whether infected or impacted) in the North
Texas area. AIN also provides education concerning HIV/AIDS transmission,
treatment, and prevention to religious communities throughout the North
Texas area. In less than two years, AIN has provided care and support
directly to more than 925 persons living with HIV/AIDS and more than 3,000
related individuals. AIN now provides more than 500 hours of home care to
persons living with HIV/AIDS each month.
"Our work is about helping people with HIV/AIDS live with dignity and
with the knowledge that God, as they know God, is with them. We are about
working with area religious communities in the facilitation of a
compassionate, caring response of hope and help to persons living with
HIV/AIDS." said Carnahan.'4
