Obituaries
Ron B. "Dawg"
Maddox
Ron B.”Dawg” Maddox, 47,
of Winnsboro, passed away
Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, at his
country home in Winnsboro.
It was not a struggle but a
graduation as he closed his
eyes and met his Lord.
A memorial service is
scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
Saturday, February 1 at Three
Rusty Nails Church with
family friends remembering
Ron’s life. The family will
receive friends from 1-2 p.m.
prior to the memorial service.
Ron was the son of the late
Tommy G. “Nub” Maddox
and Sue Bridges Toon of
Cooper. He was born January
27, 1966 in Klondike, Texas.
Some of the fondest memories
and good times were sitting
around and enjoying his love
for music. For those that knew
Ron, understood his practical
jokes, his love for fun, and
his love for his friends and
mankind. He attended Cooper
Schools - He had no formal
church affiliation other than
his relationship with God - He
was a saved firm believer in
the word of God.
He married his friend
Catherine and they have had
many happy years - doing the
things they love to do, most.
Being outside, enjoying
nature and being together.
He was preceded in death
by his father, Tommy Glenn
Maddox, and his grandfathers
T.C.’’Pappy” Maddox and
Edgar “Granddad” Bridges.
Survivors include his wife
Catherine and grandson Jerry
Garcia of the home, three
children, Chaney Maddox
Smith of Cooper, Andrea
Maddox of Clarksville, and
Harleigh Maddox of Sulphur
Springs, grandchildren, his
pride and joy, Marcus, Ally,
Brandon, Addyson, Memphis,
Rhyder, Jaxon, and Mason -
He leaves his mother Sue Toon
of Cooper - grandmothers,
Clarice “Mammy” Maddox
and Ruby “Granny” Bridges
both of Cooper, His sister
Dawn Maddox Stewart and
husband Kelly of Cooper and
a brother John Maddox and
wife Jamie of Jacksonville
Texas along with many aunts,
uncles, nieces, nephews and
cousins and a plethora of
friends.
If desired memorials may
be made in his memory to a
charity of your choice.
Connie "Chris"
Calvin
Chris Calvin, 64, of
Terlingua, TX received the
ultimate birthday gift and
began his eternal celebration
with the Lord on Tuesday,
January 21, 2014.
Memorial services are
set for Saturday, February
1st, at 10 am at East Delta
Baptist Church in Charleston
with Shane Oats officiating.
Additional memorial services
will be held at the Cowhead
Ranch in Terlingua pending
arrangements.
He was born January 21,
1950 and was the youngest son
of Velma (Chandler) Calvin
and C.C. (Blackie) Calvin who
proceeded him in death. He is
survived by daughters Sunny
Calvin of Terlingua, Brandi
Stager and husband Patrick
of Charleston, brothers Larry
Calvin and wife Barbara,
Scotty Calvin and wife Justa
all of Cooper, and David
Calvin of Tira. Grandchildren
Kelcie and Rylan Stager,
Zachary Lee and several
nieces and nephews.
Chris was a 1968 graduate
of Cooper High School
and pursued a career in
the auctioneer and cattle
business. His auctioneering
took him to many sale barns
including Bonham, Eastland,
McCallister, Ada, and
Ardmore OK. Chris was also
a dairyman and rancher at his
Milky Way Acres Farm.
In 1998 his love for the ole
west and cowboy life took him
to the mountains and deserts
of Terlingua, TX located in
the heart of Big Bend Country.
There he built, by hand, cabins,
bunkhouses, a church, and a
saloon very much like those in
the times of the ole west. He
was a tourist guide and host
and spent his days building
his legacy known to others as
Cowboy Chris and Cowhead
Ranch. He was known by all
for his generous free spirit that
never met a stranger.
He never missed an
opportunity to share his
knowledge of the land or pick
a song on his guitar around a
blazing fire. His love for his
animals and the beauty of
“God’s Country” will forever
be remembered and cherished
by his family, friends, and
neighbors.
From the words of Cowboy
Chris, Cowhead Ranch, and
all the kids...."Adios, I’ll see
ya down the trail."

C.B. (Buckner)
Rainey
C.B. (Buckner) Rainey
passed away in Paris on
January 20, 2014, 45 days
short of his 95th birthday.
Funeral services will be
held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday,
January 23, 2014 in the First
Baptist Church of Cooper.
Interment will follow in the
New Klondike Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday
evening from 6:00 to 8:00
p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Rainey was born on
March 8, 1919 in Klondike
to Beulah Ida Sims and Andy
Columbus Rainey. Except for
a brief time of service with the
Civilian Conservation Corps
and almost four years in the
Army Air Force, he lived his
entire life in Klondike. He was
a veteran of WWII, serving as
an airplane engine mechanic
in the 847th Air Engineers
Squadron of the Army Air
Force. Upon discharge, he
returned to Klondike and one
week later married Audrey
Faye Essary. They were
married 68 years.
He is survived by his wife,
Audrey Faye, son Benton and
wife Iris of Paris, daughter
Nelda Reid and husband
David of Dallas, son Gary
and wife Lisa of Rockwall,
and son Rodney and wife
Channon of Fate. His oldest
son, Jimmy Ray, preceded him
in death in 1966. He is also
survived by 11 grandchildren:
Brian, Caitlin, Gage, Jaron,
Jason, Timothy, Jackson, and
Addison Rainey, Garrison,
Meredith, and Susanna Reid
and 7 great-grandchildren:
Austin Cunningham, Noel,
Kate, Ryan, Cannon, Parker,
and Emma Rainey, with
the eighth great-grandchild
on the way. He was one of
nine children, raised with 5
brothers and 3 sisters. One
sister, Doris Thetford, of
Denton, survives.
He professed his faith in
Christ at age 13 and was
a member of First Baptist
Church in Klondike for many
years. He also had been a
member of the Klondike
Fire Department, served
on the Klondike Cemetery
Association Board, and the
West Delta School Board. He
loved the farm he owned and
took care of his land and cattle
as long as his knees allowed
him to stand and still dreamed
of working it again. In addition
to farming, he worked at E-
Systems in Greenville for 27
years and retired in 1979. In
retirement, he continued to
work on the farm but spent
countless hours attending
high school sporting events.
He watched his children and
grandchildren play or coach
sports for almost 50 years and
was proud to have seen two
sons coach state championship
teams. He also loved watching
sports on TV and was an avid
supporter of the Texas Rangers,
Dallas Mavericks, and Dallas
Cowboys. He had a memory
that amazed his family and
friends, even during his last
week in the hospital as he
related events from his long
life to his children.
Special thanks to Angie
Sharpton, C.B.’s caregiver
for 3 years. In lieu of flowers,
donations may be made to the
Klondike Fire Department.
