lenged every Scouter to recruit

mote and execute special activities

the Scouters to close the year 1950
with the largest membership in
the history of the organization.

than 700 student officers in the
Air Tactical School class which
graduated at Tyndall Air Force
Base here April 22.
Capt. Barrett is the son of Har-

Capt. Russell is the son of Mrs. J.
Wright Russell, 601 W. ~ 5th St.,

HELD IN WACO
The most important Regional
Meeting in the history of Scouting
was held April 18, 19, and 20th, in
Waco, Texas, when all 36 Councils
in Region 9 which includes Texas,
Oklahoma and New Mexico' were
represented.

President’s dinner Monday night*
Other members of the Lone Star
Council who attended this meet-
ing included Joe Tom Wood, Bill
Chapman, and Bruce Bevis of Sul-
phur Springs; John Arledge of
Bonham; J. Walton Skinner and
Frank E. Fuller, Paris. 'Dr. Ar-
thur A. Schuck Chief Scout Ex-
tivities during 1949 and 1950 in
the Lone Star Area Council. The
Council Wide Finance Campaign
will be conducted Wednesday, May
18, and Scouters throughout the
Council are very optimistic in ex-
ceeding the Council’s 'budget in
1949 in the amount of $38,990.55.

making men out of boys”, L. I.
Smith President of the Council
said, and this year’s budget pro-
vides many tools for training our
unit leaders. Dr. Jimmy Gee, Pres-
ident of the East Texas State Col-
lege is the Council’s Drive Finance
Chairman. Each District will
name its own District Drive Chair-
man in order to complete the nec-
essary organization to give every-
one the opportunity to support the
Council’s budget.
The first Council-Wide activity
will be a gigantic Camporee. It
will be held in the City Park of
Sulphur Springs on June 3 and 4.

ing lectures on Military Manage-
ment, Operations, Operational Ser-
vice, New I^velopment^, Tactics,
and Supply and Maintenance^

In addition frequent demonstra-
tions have been given, and the
program has been interspersed with
appearances of guest lecturers, rep-
resenting many allied fields of
endeavor. For flying officers op-
portunity has been given to main-
tain aerial efficiency through reg-
ular training flights in tactical air-
craft.
Upon completion of the course
here student officers returned to
their home bases, to put into op-;
eration the theories they have
