Throckmorton residents had their first taste of the
winter-to-be as they awoke to a blanket of snow Tuesday
morning, Nov. 21. However, by midday the sun broke through
and the 1 to 3 inch snow quickly disappeared.
Ahh. . . Texas weather!

Larry Nichols At Work In Abilene
Larry Nichols, native
of Throckmorton, has
moved to Abilene, Tex-
as from Oklahoma City,
Okla., to join the Gooch
Packing Co. as super-
visor of beef boning and
processing, according
to Robert Gooch, vice
president.
Nichols, 28, who gra-
duated from Throck-
morton High School in.
1963 and from Abilene
Christian College in
1967, completed work on
his master of science
degree at South Dakota
State University in 1969.
He was employed four
years with Wilson Cer-
tified Foods in Omaha,
Neb., and Oklahoma
City, where he was in
charge of a similar op-
eration as the one to
be developed at the Abi-
lene based meat com-
pany.
Larry is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Ni-
chols of Graham.
He and his wife,
Diane, also of Throck-
morton and daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Henry A.
-Smith of that city, and
3-year-old son, Brady,
live at 809 Harwell and
attend the Church of
Christ.
Mrs. Della Huston
was in Ft. Worth last
week at the Stocker
Feeder Sale and was
awarded Grand Cham-
pion on 10 steers and
Grand Champion on 10
heifers. This is the
first time she has won
both divisions at the
same time. As a result,
she was able to sell the
cattle for 55£/lb.for the
steers and 50£/lb. for
the heifers.
Nichols’ Return
To City
Mr. and Mrs. Creth
Nichols have returned
to Throckmorton and
are living in their old.
home in the Keeter ad-
dition.

Hounds Brand Steers
The Hounds took a 14-
0 lead over the Roches-
ter Steers by the second
quarter at Rochester
last Friday night, then
coasted to a 23-6 win
in District 5-B com-
petition.
Greyhound scoring
began in the first quar-
ter when Bill Bundy pas-
sed 19 yards to Jerry
Young for the touch-
down.
In the second quarter
the Bundy-Young com-
bination worked again
for a 9-yard score. Then
Bundy passed to Joe
Putnam for the two ex-
tra points, making it
14-0.
Rochester got its only
score of the game la-
ter in the period when
Donald Scott kept for the
two yarder. The £P try
failed and it was 14-6
at the half.
A safety against Ro-
chester got two more
points for Throckmor-
ton in the third period.
Final Greyhound TD was
by Young, who ran back
an intercepted pass 60
yards for the six points.
Birney Killman booted
the extra point.
The season mark for
Rochester ended at 3-7
and 1-4 on the district,
while the Hounds ended
with a 4-5-1 and a 3-1
district record.

from Throckmorton is
playing on the Me Mur-
ry Women’s Volleyball
Team this year.
Karen McCarson,
daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. G. B. McCarson,
Box 775, Elbert, who is
majoring in Elementary
Education and minoring
in P.E., is a graduate
of Throckmorton High
School.
Their schedule in-
cludes matches with
Abilene Christian Col*=
lege, Texas Tech, Sul
Ross, Hardin-Simmons,
Tarleton, Odessa Jr.
College, West Texas
State and Howard Jr.
College.
