MEETS TUESDAY
IN THORNTON HOME
On Tuesday afternoon the Ed-
roy Garden Club met in the home
of Mrs. Jack Thornton, Sr. with
Mrs. E. W. Davis sharing host-
ess duties with Mrs. Thornton.
“Plant Texas” is the theme of
the club for the current year and
the guest speaker, H. W. Gist of
Sinton, followed the theme, cen-
tering his remarks around the
subject “The Home, the Shrubs,
and the Lawn,’ to stress the im-
portance of beautification of the
home premises as the first step
toward a State-wide beautification
plan through the planting of trees,
shrubs and flowers.
One of the features of the
Edroy Garden Club for the cur-
rent year is the practice in flow-
er arranging and flower judging,
with members of the club divided
into teams of two for the pur-
pose of providing the flowers and
as judges of the arrangements.
At the meeting on Tuesday of
last week Mrs. J. B. Owen
and Mrs. Robert Dehnisch pro-
vided the flowers and Mrs. R. E.
Marburger and Mrs. John Schnei-
der served as judge.
Following the program the host-
esses served refreshments of open-
face sandwiches, cheese crackers,
cookies and punch.
Four new members, Mrs. John
Schneider, Mrs. Marvin Farr,
Mrs. Martin Schneider and Mrs.
J. R. Greenwood were welcomed
into the club. Others present were
the guest speaker, Mr. Gist, and
Mrs. R. A. Adams, Mrs. H. P.
Brouilette, Mrs. Robert Dehnisch,
Mrs. E. J, Heuermann, Mrs. Phil-
lip Ludwig, Mrs. R. E. Marburg-
)er, Mrs. W. C. Mayfield, Mrs.. J.

GIVES J. O. STEINS
HOUSE WARMING
A group of friends of the J. O.
Stein family drove down from
Odem to Raymondville to sur-
prise Mr. and Mrs. Stein with a
housewarming.
Mr. and Mrs. Stein had their
home and much of their new
furniture damaged by the recent
high waters in Raymondville, and
their friends here planned the
housewarming as a moral build-
er for the Stein family, with Mrs.
B. H. Davis, formerly of Odem
and Mrs. Sewell Smith acting as
hostesses for the thoughtful ges-
ture.
Those attending from Odem
were Mrs. Stein’s sister, Mrs.
D. A. Stein, Mr. and Mrs. Tony
Weatherly, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde
Parker, Mr. and Mrs. Joe But-
ler, and Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Eads,
Jr. and Mrs. and Mrs. Forrest
Mitchell of Sinton.
Gifts were presented the Stein
family and a buffet supper was
served. The group from Odem
and Sinton remained over for the
week-end in the Valley, and with
Mr. and Mrs. Stein and Mr. and
Mrs. Davis had “old home” week-
end spent in visiting and sight-
seeing in the Rio Grande Valley.

Meets In Carson Home
Mrs. E. T. Carson was hostess
I to the Odem HD Club on Monday
afternoon when the club mem-
bers met to prepare their annual
I reports.
At the refreshment hour the
I hostess served sandwiches, cake
and a choice of Coke or coffee.

Double Wedding Unites
Two Odem Couples
In a double wedding ceremony
performed by a San Antonio jus-
tice of the peace two Odem cou-
ples exchanged their marriage
vows on Friday morning, with
Miss Dora Nino becoming the
bride of Jesus Gonzales and Miss
Adelita Blanco becoming the bride
of Rodolfo Nino, all of Odem.
Mrs. Gonzales is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Jesus Nino and
her husband is the son of Mrs.
Louis Garcia. Mrs. Gonzales was
employed at the Odem Pharma-
cy for several months prior to
her marriage and Mr. Gonzales
is a veteran of the Korean con-
flict, who received the Silver
Star, the third highest award giv-
en by the U. S. Army, for gal-
lantry in action.
Mrs. Nino is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Elijio Blanco, and
her husband is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Sisto Nino. Mrs. Nino
also was employed at the Odem
Pharmacy. She and her husband
both attended the Odem schools.
Both couples left on Saturday
for New Mexico where the two
men are employed on a construc-
tion job.
E. H. Schulzes Visiting
Daughter In San Antonio
Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Schulze
left during the week-end for San
Antonio where they will be
guests in the home of their daugh-
ter and her family, Mr. and Mrs.
Lance Arnold and children, for
several days.
Later they will drive on to San
Marcos to visit their son, How-
ard Dean Schulze, who is a mem-
ber of the San Marcos Acade-
my faculty. They will vacation in
San Marcos for the remainder of
Mr. Schulze’s three-week vacation
period. He is an employee of the
Missiouri-Pacific Lines, and be-
gan his vacation on Saturday of
last week.
Odem Garden Club
To Have Flower Program
Mrs. Gordon King of Corpus
Christi will conduct a workshop
on flower arrangement on Oct. 18
when the Odem Garden Club
meets for its regular program on
that date in the music room at
Shelton Elementary School, with
Mrs. V. F. Shelton as hostess.
Each member of the club is
requested to bring flowers and
a container to use in the lesson.
Montgomery Twins
Honored With Party
Paul and Paula Montgomery
were honored with a party given
at the home of their parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Montgom-
ery in Sinton on Sunday afternoon
in honor of the twins’ third birth-
day.
Birthday cakes were the center
of attraction at the refreshment
table, and the matching confec-
ions were cut and served with
soft drinks after the games were
played and favors of wrist toy
watches and plastic toys were
passed.
Those attending were the honor-
ees, Paul and Paula, and their
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W.
B. Cleveland and Mrs. Leila Mont-
gomery, all of Odem; and Mr.
and Mrs. Madison Montgomery
and Earl of Corpus Christi; Mrs.
Lloyd Moore and Mickey and Deb-
bie and Marlton Hall of Sinton;
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Brown and Tim
of Odem; Harriet Montgomery,
and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mont-
gomery.
Meadors Spend Week-end
Visiting Relatives
Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Meador
spent the week-end visiting rela-
tives in the Hill Country and at
Devine.
In Bandera they were guests in
the home of her sister, Mrs. H.
V. O'Bryant and husband, and at
Devine they visited with Mr. Mea-
dor’s niece and her husband, Mr.
and Mrs. Johnny Johnson.

and son spent several days in
Pt. Lavaca visiting her mother,
Mrs. Pauline DeShazo.
The Times joins the many
friends of Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Oelschlege in congratulating the
young . couple on the birth of an
eight-pound son, who was born
at a Sinton hospital on Wednes-
day morning.
The child has been named Da-
vid Charles.
Rouses Attend Family
Gathering In Arkansas
Mr. and Mrs. Orville Rouse
and daughter Jo Ann have re-
turned from a short visit to Nor-
folk, Ark., where they went to
attend a family reunion of Mr.
Rouse’s relatives.
The occasion for the family ga-
thering was a visit from W. O.
Rouse and family, who were
visiting his mother in Norfork
from their home in Fresno, Calif.
School being in sesson here nec-
esitated a short visit on the part
of the Orville Rouse family, since
Jo Ann was anxious to be absent
from school for the shortest pos-
sible time.

HOSTESS FOR W.S.C.S.
ANNIVERSARY TEA
Yellow and bronze- chrysanthe-
mums were combined in a love-
ly centerpiece for the lace-laid
table when Mrs. R. B. Turner
was hostess to the WSCS when
the organization met for its 15th
anniversary tea on Thursday af-
ternoon from three to five o’clock.
Portions of • the 105th Psalm
were read for the devotional, af-
ter which Mrs. O. A. Ehlers gave
the background and highlights of
the WSCS as an organization.
Mrs. William Scull then gave the
history of the local WSCS.
A memorial service for the de-
parted members of the Odem
WSCS was a most impressive fea-
ture of the program, with Mrs.
C. O. Boatman presiding over
that portion of the program. An
open Bible with white candles
burning in crystal holders at ei-
ther side was the central point
of interest as the Memorial Ser-
vice was held. Mrs. Boatman
read the ever comforting pass-
ages of Scripture found in John
14:1-4, followed by a few words
of appreciation of., the lives of
Christian women and the living
influence of those lives. Mrs. O.
A. Ehlers read the names of the
six departed members of the lo-
cal WSCS and as each name was
called a pink rose was placed
on the open Bible. Those names
on the Memorial roster were Mrs.
Mary Bishop, Mrs. Mattie Stan-
ley, Mrs. R. L. Pyle, Mrs. E.
E. Whatley, Mrs. E. C. Caldwell
and Mrs. C. D. Scull.
Mrs. J. E. Williams read a
poem, “Answer to Pray,” honor-
ing the 44 charter members' of
the WSCS of First Methodist
Church, Odem.
Mrs. J. H. Hightower pronounc-
ed the benediction.
Following the program a social
hour was held.
Misses Jantt Tewes, Carolyn
Weatherly, and Pat Voss served
cake and frosted punch at the
refreshment hour.
