INTER-OFFICE LETTER

ON THIS SHEET HEADS FOR INTER-OFFICE CORRESPONDENCE
Dear Mr. Dan:
This letter should reach you before you leave Paris, and
will probably be the last report while you are away, unless
you want me to write you while you are in New York which I
will be very glad to do.
We have just about finished harvesting our cotton, and the
yield has fooled us all. We have ginned 3,278 bales off
the farm and 5,052 bales outside for a total of 8,330
bales which is an all time high. We will probably make
two or three more bales off the farm, but that will wind
it up.
We had 980 acres in cotton at Blakely and have ginned 970
bales, and we are finished there. We had 2,078 acres
here at Sugar Land and have ginned 2,308 bales. The overall
average is a fraction over 536 pounts net lint per acre
which is also an all time high. However, the quality of
our cotton this season is not as good as last year due to
the rains, and in addition, prices for both cotton and
cottonseed are down considerably, but I am hoping we will
wind up with about the same net as last year. Our cotton,
cottonseed, and gin accounts showed very nice profits
at the end of September and figuring these in with our
farming operations should bring us up to last year.
The foundation for our new seed warehouse is going right
along, and we should have this building completed within
another 30 days and probably by the time you get home.
We have had no further word from the people interested in
a site for a container plant, and we are hoping that they
have not yet made a decision to locate elsewhere.
The Texas Company has set casing in their well on the
Bashara lease to 8,333' and the reason they give for doing
this is that they were losing too much mud in water sands.
Whether this an actual fact, we, of course, don't know.
The Continental people have until the 25th of this month
to do something about their lease on Blakely. They will
either have to commence drilling or pay delay rental by that
date. We have been unable to confirm the rumor that the
Humble Company now owns this lease. A representative of
the Texas Company was in a day or two ago inquiring about
a lease on the balance of Blakely - about 2400 acres.
