AMOS FUDDLE
His Column
The Jackets are on the move and so is the ever so popular
Amos (Fearless) Fuddle. Amos predicted beyond the capacity
of any mere human last week as he came out of his magic bag
with 11 games right and one lousy, good-for-nothin’ game
wrong. Folks whither you know it or not that is an outstanding
.917 average for the first week. (Not bad.)
Well I, Amos (Fantastic) Fuddle, feel that things would have
gone just a little bit better if the old bunion would have ever got
out of first gear. But, what’s the harm? Here we’ve started a
brand new season with a brand new record.
This week, if the bunion s in the mood, we hope to give you
an even more outstanding display of these superhuman abilities.
And here they are!
KERMIT 21-CRANE 6 — 1 underestimated those Jackets last
week, but never again. The Jackets will show the Cranes a
wupin’ Texas style.
ALPINE 14-FT. STOCKTON 6 - The Panthers let me down
last week and they just can’t be trusted at the hands of a team
like Alpine. The Bucks are up in arms over the loss to the
Jackets.
PECOS 21-CARLSBAD 7 - Carlsbad couldn’t handle the
bunch from Lamesa last week and sure can’t take the big boys
from Pecos. Pecos shows Cavemen the way home.
ODESSA HIGH 21-ANDREWS 0 - Mustangs still playing
with dynamite and are bound to get burned. No chance for the
Broncos to let down. Andrews will be lucky if they can score at
all.
LUBBOCK ESTACADO 14-MONAHANS 13 — This ought to
be a close one. Monahans will have their hands full, but may be
a surprise to the prognosticators.
LUBBOCK 30-ECTOR 6 - Eagles are in for a real tough one
as they tangle with the big Lubbock school. They’ll do good to
keep their jerseys on.
BROWNFIELD 14-SEMINOLE 7 — Brownfield’s loss to
Levelland will make all the difference in this game. Seminole
defeated Denver City last week. Brownfield is looking for a win.
STANTON 20-WINK 10 — Wink’s still not strong enough to
handle a team like Stanton. Wink will have its birth in district
play.
LAMESA 14-DENVER CITY 6 The Tornadoes are still hot
on a winning streak and should dispose of the Denver City team
with skill and experience.
PERMIAN 21-AMARILLO 7 - Panthers are still the team to
beat in the West Texas area. Mojo too much for Amarillo.
MIDLAND 20-AMAR1LLO TASCOSA 14 - Midland is still a
strong 5-AAAA team and is one to be reckoned with. This team
is the one that stung Permian last year. They still look strong.
MIDLAND LEE 15-SNYDER 12 - Even though Snyder
came down to the AAA level this year they still have lots of
punch and may just punch their way to a win.
SHOTS IN THE DARK — Van Horn downing Marfa,
McCamey defeating Rankin, Ballinger slipping by Reagan
County, Big Spring over Hobbs and Robert Lee whiskerine by
Bronte.

Tie With
Crane 6-6
Seven fumbles and a last
minute touchdown by Crane
prevented the Ninth Grade
Yellow Jacket football team
from collecting their first
victory of the 1974 season
Saturday night in their first
season game.
In the first quarter Kermit
punched a touchdown over the
goal line for six points on a 17
yard run by Dwayne Terry to
go ahead 6-0.
Kermit was able to hold the
lead until the two minute mark
in the fourth quarter when
Crane got a ball carrier loose to
run 65 yards for a touchdown.
Kermit prevented the Crane
freshman from scoring extra
points and the game ended in a
6-6 tie.
Outstanding offensive
players receiving recognition
by the coaching staff were Ray
Jennings, Ruben Briones and
Monty Egger. Those
receiving special recognition
for their defensive efforts were
Jennings and Briones.
Kermit will meet it’s next
competition in a home game
against the Ft. Stockton
freshmen Thursday night at 7
at Walton Field.

Crane Seventh
Kermit Junior High School
seventh grade Junior Dauber
football team started the
season out right this week as
they earned their first victory
of the season with a 14-6 win
over Crane.
Things started out tough for
the Kermit Daubers as Crane
got off to an early lead in the
first quarter on a 23-yard run.
Kermit retaliated quickly,
however, as Cole Mitchell
scored six on a play covering
32 yards. Todd Ethridge added
the extra points and Kermit led
by a score of 8-6.
Again in the second quarter
Kermit found the right
combination as quarterback
Kelly Creager found Mitchell
open and the duo tallied points
on a 39-yard pass. The extra
points failed and Kermit held
on to the lead, winning by a
score of 14-6.
Outstanding offensive
players named in the game
were Kelly Creager, Todd
Ethridge, Cole Mitchell, Junior
Jennings and Roland Bell.
Getting the nod of
outstanding performance on
the defensive unit were Todd
Ethridge, Cole Mitchell, Ray
Boring, Junior Jennings, lino
Lujan, Roland Bell, Billy
Shepherd and Billy Turner.
The seventh grade Daubers
will see their next action in a
Maroon and Gold game which
will be played at Walton Field
in Kermit Saturday, Sept. 21,
at 11 a.m.

Blank
Crane 26-0
The Kermit Junior High
Daubers started their season
out right Saturday as they
literally dismantled the Crane
eighth grade team by a score of
26-0.
On their very first possession
ground out 50 yards for a
touchdown with the final 24
yards being tacked on by
quarterback Alfred McGilbra.
Following the Kermit
kickoff Crane was held on
downs and punted the ball
back to an eager Kermit
offense. Kermit then took the
ball down the field with good
gains by Edwin Wallace and
Ruben Berzoza and once again
McGilbra raced 15 yards for
the second Kermit touchdown.
Berzoza carried the ball for
two points and Kermit led by a
score of 14-0.
In second quarter action,,
McGilbra took a handoff from
quarterback Roger King and
galloped 35 yards for the third
touchdown of the day for the
strong Kermit offense. The
extra point attempt failed and
Kermit held a 20-0 lead.
On an interception by
Albert Ureta the Kermit
offense gained the final
touchdown of the day early in
the third quarter as Deon
Bryant, McGilbra and Berzoza
shared in the duties of carrying
the ball down field. McGilbra
then tacked on the final
touchdown on a 40 yard
touchdown run making the
score read Kermit 26 and
Crane 0.
Receiving special
recognition on the offensive
unit for the eighth grade were
Alfred McGilbra, Ruben
Berzoza and Kevin Brown.
Those getting the nod for a job
well done on the defensive unit
were Tim Smith, Albert Ureta,
Willie Taylor, Roger King and
McGilbra.
In commenting on the game
Coach Ken Mays stated, “Our
defense was real good and all
our players got to see action.”
The eighth grade squad
members will see their next
action against West Pecos
Saturday, Sept. 14, at Walton
Field. The Eighth Grade B
team game will get under way
at 9:30 and the A team game
will begin at 11.
