MAKES THE STOP
Several Yellow Jacket Junior Varsity players move in on an unidentified Crane ball carrier
during Thursday night’s game which was played at Walton Field in Kermit. Coming in to make
the stop is Jimmy Garcia (24) as Arturo Carrasco (73) and another unidentified Kermit player
move over to help out. Kermit defeated the Crane junior varsity by a lopsided 35-6.

With only 15 seconds gone
in the game and on their first
possession of the night, the
Kermit Junior Varsity football
team set the turf on fire with a
35-yard touchdown ramble by
fullback Russell Stout to start
a long series of touchdown
runs that ended with the
Kermit JV defeating Crane’s
t Junior Varsity by a score of
35-6.
Place kicker Clifton King
added the first extra point and
Kermit led by a score of 7-0.
After several unsuccessful
tries by the Crane team,
Kermit received the ball on the
Crane 24 and ended another
drive with Stout going over left
guard to add six more. With
4:39 left in the first quarter,
King once again placed the ball
through the uprights and
Kermit led 14-0.
All the scoring was not over
< in the first quarter, however, as

A total of 54 youngsters
have thus far reported to
training sessions at Kermit
Junior High for seventh grade
football.
Under direction of Coach
Ted Kirby, the team earned its
first victory Saturday, downing
Crane 14-6.

MEN DON’T COMPLAIN
While women around the
nation are fighting for a place
in government, Walthourville,
Ga., is being run by females.
All the members of the city
council are women in the town
of 413 persons and Mayor
Lyndol Anderson said she
hears no major complaints
from the men.

touchdown. Davis threw a pass
to Mark Sheen in the end zone
to add two extra points and
Kermit held an undisputed
28-0 lead with 24 seconds gone
in the period.
Offensive play became
stymied in the third quarter
following the Kermit
touchdown as neither team was
able to move the ball in to
score.
Again it was on the first
play of the quarter that a score

Prizes For Tourney
A total of 40 prizes were
awarded to participants in the
First Annual Kermit Jaycees
Blind Bogey Golf Tournament
which was held at Winkler
County Country Club on Sept.
1-7. The prizes were awarded
at a barbecue dinner which was
held Saturday night following
the last day of the tourney.
Prizes consisted of various
golf-related items such as golf
shoes, golf gloves, putters,
woods and irons.
Those receiving prizes and
the prize which they received
are as follows: Gary Warren,
one dozen golf balls; Leo
Connally, golf shirt; Gerald
McGuire, irons; Joe Dixon, hat;

resulted as Crane made their
only score of the night on a
32-yard pass from the
quarterback to Crane end No.
80. Extra points were of no
avail for the Crane team as an
attempted two-point pass was
picked off in the end zone by
defensive back Mark Morris for
the Jackets.
The final score of the night
resulted from a Crane fumble
which was recovered by Joe
Carrell for the Kermit team.
Carrell covered the ball on the
Crane 17-yard line and Kermit
capitalized on the play on a
pass from Davis to end Danny
Eaton. Kermit then tacked on
the extra point and ended the
scoring with Kermit defeating
Crane by a score of 35-6.
The Kermit Junior Varsity
will see their next action
Thursday afternoon as they
journey to Odessa to take on
the Odessa High sophomores at
4 o’clock.
