with lily of the valley.
Hurricane lamps lined the
walkway outside the church
and guests registered in the
foyer at a table decorated with
an arrangement of pastel
daisies.
Organist, Mrs. Nancy Beyer,
played “Bless This House” as
the couple’s grandmothers

party entered to Bach’s
^ “Fugue.” J. D. Carlisle sang
f r “Because” and The Lord’s
Prayer.”
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. John B. Bounds,
Jr. of Sinton and the groom is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. T. C.
Tolbirt of Odem.
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride chose a white
nylon uiganza gown with a
cathedral train and ruffle
edged skirt with bands of re-
embroidered lace with lace
panels trimming the front of
the pinafore effect bodice.
. Lace and ruffles trimmed the
high neckline and bishop
sleeves. A headpiece of re-
iembroidered alencon lace and
simulated pearls held the el-
bow length veil of illusion. For
* something old, she carried her
maternal great-grandmother’s
lace handkerchief. She carried
a colonial bouquet of white
roses accented with pastel
daisies, baby’s breath and
white satin streamers.
Serving as her sister-in-law’s
matron of honor was Mrs. Mike
Bounds of Corpus Christi.
Bridesmaids were Miss Trudy
Shumate and Miss Vicki
Hesseltine of Sinton and the
groom’s sister, Miss Patty
Tolbirt of Odem.
Kenneth Hunter of San
1 Patricio was best man,. and
groomsmen were Carl Carroll
I jind Billy Workman, both of
Odem, and Tommy Bounds,
the bride’s brother, of Sinton.
Seating the guests were
Bennie Tolbirt, brother of the
groom, of Odem and Mike
Bounds the bride’s brother of
Corpus Christi.
The bridal attendants wore
full length dresses of Mandel -
blue flocked sheer over taffeta,
fashioned with long sheer
sleeves and blue velvet tied
belt streamers falling to the
hem. They carried nosegays of
pastel daisies and baby’s
breath.
The bride’s mother wore a
pale lavender chiffon formal
length dress and the mother of
the groom chose a pale green
knit. They both wore white
daisy corsages.
Following the wedding, a
reception was held in the
fellowship hall of the church. A
small table holding a bouquet
of pastel daisies was placed at
the entrance to the hall. The
bride’s table, covered with
white organdy over white, was
centered with a large silver
candlelabra arranged with
white lace poms and baby’s
breath. Her three tiered cake,
decorated with white spun
sugar flowers was topped with
a pair of white doves. Punch
was also served. Serving at the
table were Mrs. Cheryl
Pinkston and Miss Barbara
Picha of Sinton.

The groom’s table was
covered with a blue linen cloth
and held a silver coffee service
and a German chocolate cake
forming a double-ring and
inscribed with James and
Patty. The table was centered
with a bouquet of blue lace
poms, baby breath and blue
candles in a silver compote.
Serving were Miss Terry
Cornelius and Miss Rhonda
Montgomery.
The bride is a 1974 graduate
of Sinton High School and at-
tended Stephen F. Austin
University in Nacogdoches.
She is presently a junior
student at Texas A & I at
Kingsville. The groom is a 1974
graduate of Odem High and
attended Del Mar Tech in
Corpus Christi. He is employed
as a welder with Brown and
Root Construction Co.
For a wedding trip to Concan
the bride wore a two-piece blue
suit accented with a macrame
belt and a white daisy corsage.
They will reside in Odem.

covered dish supper Tuesday
night.

Jessie Hanshaw, Mrs. Mrytle
Brown and Mrs. Welch, were
given recognition and had
“Happy Birthday” sung to
them.

party at Jimmie’s Cafe, June
25.

Enjoys Holidays
Mr. and Mrs. Victor Nunez
and Sandra thoroughly enjoyed
the fourth of July holidays, said
Mrs. Nunez.
They went to Houston July 3
and were overnight guests in
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Andy
Almazan Jr. On the Fourth
they drove to San Antonio to
visit other relatives, including
Almazan’s parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Andy Almazan Sr., Mr.
and Mrs. Pete Padilla and Mr.
and Mrs. Trino Cantu.
With the exception of a little
rain in San Antonio, the
weather was fine and the visits
with all their relatives were
very enjoyable, said Mrs.
Nunez, who was back at her job
with Thornton’s Foods at mid-
week.

Mrs. Allan Nix, who with her
father, Gernal Kirchman,
attended the “Watermelon
Thump Show” held in Luling
June .24-26, had one of her glass
etchings given recognition.
She was told her etching was
in competition with paintings
instead of glass etchings
through an error made in the
grandmother, Mr. and Mrs.

Miss Belinda Gail Simpson
and John Henry Tracy were
married at 3:30 p.m. Friday,
July 2, in the Sacred Heart
Catholic Church with Rev.
Jerry Zurovetz officiating.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Grover Simpson
and the groom’s parents are
Mr. and Mrs. James F. Tracy,
Sr., all of Sinton.
The altar held a large spring
arrangement of mixed
gladiolas, Killian daisies,
carnations, pom mums and
daisies in pastel shades.
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride wore a floor
length gown of white em-
broidered voile in a unique
design, fashioned with a vee
neckline edged in ruffled lace.
The long full sleeves, with
embroidery inset on the bias,
were flared at the wrist and
edged in lace. The natural
waistline circled with lace fell
into a five tiered skirt, with
embroidery on alternating
tiers. She wore a picture hat of
lace with a ruching of taffeta
overlay and carried a colonial
bouquet of white carnations,
white daisies, gypsophellia and
yellow wave roses, with
accents of white lace and tulle.

Mrs. Nix has taken in-
struction in glass etching for
several months under the
direction of Estella Williams of
Raymondville.
She currently has one of her
etchings on display in the
Odem Pharmacy and another
in the office of San Pat Lumber
Co. a one-artist display of her
work will be placed in First
State Bank of Odem at a later
date.
Mrs. Nix finds her latest
hobby in glass etching one of
the most satisfying and
rewarding hobbies she has
ever had.
Her only attendant was her
sister-in-law, Jerri Simpson of
Bellville. She wore a floor
length fown of white sheer
with blue floral print. It was
trimmed in navy grosgrain
ribbon and ecru lace. She wore
a navy picture hat and carried
a nosegay of pastel daisies,
carnations and pom mums
accented with blue star
flowers.
James F. Tracy served his
son as best man.
The bride’s mother wore a
formal length candlelight
jersey dress with long fitted
sleeves and a vee neckline
accented with a bow, and
avocado accessories.
The mother of the groom
chose a floor length dress of
beige, white and rose floral
chiffon, with an empire wai-
stline. The fitted bodice
featured self covered buttons
with a silk bow at the neckline,
and long full sleeves with fitted
cuffs.
Following the ceremony the
couple left for a wedding trip to
Laredo. They will live in Sinton
where he is employed by the
San Patricio County Publishing
Company. She is an employee
of the Taft Tribune in Taft.
Johnsons Visit
Parents In Odem
Mr. and Mrs. S. R. Johnson
and children of Corpus Christi
stopped by for a visit with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam
Johnson, Sunday as they were
enroute home from a vacation
which took them for a visit with
relatives in Goldsboro, N. C.
Johnson was stationed at
Goldsboro, N. C. during part of
his military career. It was the
first time for the family to
revisit Goldsboro since his
discharge from service. The
Johnson children, Michael and
Michelle, were both born in
Mrs. Smith Home
From Hawaii Visit
Mrs. Doyle Smith reports
that her son’s wife, Mrs.
Morgan Smith, of Kingsville
has just returned from a two-
weeks’ visit in Hawaii.
She is the former Janet
Oelschlegel of Mathis, and she
and her brother, Donnie
Oelschlegel of Austin, made
the trip to Hawaii to visit
another brother and his wife, S-
Sgt. and Mrs. Doyle
Oelschlegal, and their
children, Catherine and John.
While in Hawaii Mrs. Smith
and her relatives toured the
Pearl Harbor Battleground,
the USS Arizona Memorial,
Waikiki and Molokai Beaches,
Diamond Head and the Sacred
Falls of Oahu.
S-Sgt. Oelschlegel is making
the Air Force his career. His
wife is the former Grace
Koepsel Sexton, also of
Mathis. Donnie is a physician’s
assistant and he is presently
working for the Social Security
Administration. Mrs. Smith is
a relief office employee at
Celanese of America Plant in
Bishop.
Ray Childress
Funeral services for Ray
Childress, 74, were conducted
in the Goodwin Funeral Home
Chapel at 4 p.m. Friday, with
the Rev. Claude W. Jacks,
pastor of First Baptist Church,
Odem, officiating. Burial was
made in Evergreen Cemetery.
Childress, a native of
Tuscola, Taylor Co. Texas,
died in his home around 9 p.m.
Wednesday, June 30, from an
apparent heart attack.
He was a member of the
Baptist Church. He had lived in
Odem for the past 42 years and
engaged in farming for a
livelihood.
He is survived by his wife,
Mrs. Myrl Childress of Odem;
two daughters, Mrs. Lee (Billie
Rae) McFarland of Jackson,
Miss, and Mrs. C. E. (Patsy)
Scull of Odem; three grand-
sons, Gary McFarland of
Mississippi, William Ray
Scull and Routt E. Scull,
both of Odem; two grand-
daughters, Mrs. Sam Jones of
Mississippi and Mrs. Jim
Massey of Banquete; two
great-grandchildren, Kimberly
and Michelle Jones, of
Mississippi; two brothers, R.
T. Childress of Odem and
Curtis Childress of Corpus
Christi ; and three sisters, Mrs.
Frank Cleveland, Mrs. Lois
Dean and Mrs. Fred Russell,
all of Sinton.
Pallbearers were Larry
Bickham, Don Horne, Earl
Gillespie, O. A. Tally, Bob
Parker and David Ellis.
Out-of-town relatives here to
attend the funeral services
came from Mississippi,
Cleburne, Houston, Corpus
Christi, Kingsville, Dallas,
Wichita Falls, Portland and
Alice.
Goldsboro, and their parents
drove by for the children to see
the large home where the
family lived when the children
were infants.
Michael and Michelle were
both born in 1964, though they -
are not twins. He was born
January 2 and she Dec. 29,
1964. The parents chose similar
names for the children because
of the short age gap making the
rearing of the children almost
like that of caring for twins,
said the children’s grandmoth-
er.

Miss Joan Atkinson
Home From Houston
Miss Joan Atkinson has
returned from Silsbee
Beaumont and Houston, where
she had been with Mrs. Rickey
Pryor, whose husband suffered
a broken neck in a swimming
accident June 19.
Pryor has been moved from
St. Elizabeth Hospital in
Beaumont to the Veterans
Administration Hospital in
Houston. Rickey is still
paralyzed from the chest down,
but he has partial use of his
arms. The surgery planned for
Tuesday to relieve pressure on
his spine has been deferred for
a time, said Miss Atkinson in
reporting on his condition this
week. Neck braces will be used
before the surgery, said Miss
Atkinson.
Mr. and' Mrs. Pryor, who
were married July 19, 1975,
have an infant daughter,
Beverly Anne, who is with her
mother in Houston. The Pryors
lived in Silsbee and the people
from that town have been
exceedingly kind to the couple,
said Miss Atkinson, making
contributions to a medical fund
for Pryor. A benefit barbecue
and a rodep are planned, with
all the proceeds to go into the
Rickey Pryor fund.
Mrs. Pryor is the former
Sherry Uhl of Odem. Anyone
wishing to write her may do so
in care of Bob Allen at 1013 -
Phyllis, Deer Park, Texas,
77536. Mrs. Pryor and Beverly
Anne are staying with her
relatives, Mr. and Mrs. Bob
Allen in Deer Park while their
husband and father is in the VA
Hospital in Houston.
Miss Atkinson drove to
Beaumont with Mrs. Pryor’s
father, Corky Uhl, following
the accident which crippled
Pryor to be with Mrs. Pryor
and the baby. She returned
from Houston on the Golden
Eagle Continental Trailways
and had to go into Corpus
Christi because she was
traveling on the Golden Eagle,
the non-stop bus. She was met
there by her mother, Mrs. John
T. Atkinson Jr. and her sister,
Mrs. Larry Walker and Miss
Cynthia Atkinson.
Davises Celebrate Silver
Wedding Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. E. W. (“Bo”)
Davis of Sinton were honored
with a dinner in observance of
their silver wedding an-
niversary given in the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Thornton
Sr. at Edroy.
Mr. and Mrs. Thornton were
assisted with host duties by Mr.
and Mrs. Darrell Whiteley of
Odem, Mr. and Mrs. James
Webb of Sinton and Mrs. Jack
Paslay of Portland.
The hosts presented the
honorees with a silver tray
engraved with their names and
the date of their wedding June
29, 1951.
The honorees’ son, Eugene
Davis Jr., a ministerial student
in the Southwest Baptist
Seminary in Ft. Worth, came
down to be with his parents on
the happy occasion of their
Silver wedding anniversary.
Other special guests were E.
W. Davis’ cousins, Harold
Furley and Walter Furley of
Corpus Christi.
It has long been a tradition in
the Davis family to hold an
annual “cousins party”, and
that event was combined with
the dinner honoring Mr. and
Mrs. Davis this year to make
for a very happy occasion for
the honorees and the 36 guests
attending the dinner.

Mr. and Mrs. Raymond
Morris were honored with a
dinner at King’s Inn on Riveria
Beach July 3, in observance of
their 36th wedding an-
niversary.
Their children and grand-
children hosted the courtesy.

Mr. and Mrs. Morris, Mr. and
Mrs. Larry Dix and sons,
Richard and Larry, of Odem,
Mr. and Mrs. John Childress of
Portland, Mrs. Edith Larman
