Projects For Naval Station
Ingleside Await Action

The San Patricio Commissioners’
Court took no action on approving
eight of eleven transportation pro-
jects needed to facilitate develop-
ment and access to Naval Station In-
gleside at their regular meeting
Monday.
“In order to go forward in this pro-
ject, we need to set in concrete pro-
jects we are going to support,”
County Judge J.M. Edmondson, Jr.,
said.
“We have to determine the costs to
the county and the two cities, and we
have to find money to live up to the
responsibility,” Edmondson added.

Twenty-Two Seek Constable Posts
As Filing Ends For April Election

A total of seventeen candidates
have filed and refiled for constable
on the Democratic ticket and five
have done the same on the
Republican ticket as of the 6 p.m.
deadline, March 15.
Seven new candidates added their
names to the the Democratic ticket,
and three new candidates filed on
the Republican ticket.
Seeking a place on the Democratic
ticket in precinct one are incumbent
Gilbert P. Candelaria, Gwynn Senf,
Felix Ybarra, Rudy Adams Davila,
Alfredo R. Gonzales Jr. arid Mark
Mainer.
In precinct two, Steve Garcia Jr.
who was running unopposed in the
primary election is joined by Jerry
Lee and Victor Nino.
J.P. Kiker remains unopposed in
precinct four, and in precinct five no
new candidates filed. Refiling in
precinct five were incumbent
Eugenio B. Coronado and Lawrence
F. Dunn.
Incumbent Rudy Ramirez and
Juan “Frank” Lamas refiled in
precinct six.
Refiling in precinct eight were
Leopoldo “Polo” Ramirez and Fidel
“Wahoo” Salazar. Enrique (Henry)
Plata added his name in that
precinct.
In the Republican ticket, Joe Enis
filed in precinct one. Refiling in
precinct four was Nick Roubos.
V. “Gene” Schwenke and Mark
Roach filed in precinct six, and
Brian Vickery refiled in precinct
eight.
County Clerk Dottie Maley said
her office will start mailing out
ballots for both the primary runoff
election and special primary con-
stable election Friday, March 18.
Ballots will be mailed to everyone
who filed an application to vote
absentee in the primary election.
The first day to vote absentee by
personal appearance in the special
primary election for constables is
Wednesday, March 23 in Room B-19
at the Court House.
Weekend voting for the special
primary election for constables is
Saturday, March 26 and Sunday,
March 27. Weekend voting will also
be held April 2 and April 3.
Dottie Maley said Monday, April 4
is the first day of absentee voting by
personal appearance in the primary
runoff election.
April 5 is the last day to receive
applications to vote by mail for both
elections, and April 8 is the last day
to mail out ballots and to vote by per-
sonal appearance.
The National Forensic League and
the International Thespian Society
of Odem High School will present
“You Can’t Take It With You” for
the public on Thursday, March 17, at
7:30 p.m. The show will be presented
in the Multi-Purpose Room with $1
admission charge.
The comedy is about a daffy fami-
ly, the Vanderhofs, with each family
member pursuing his or her own in-
terests. The story climaxes when a
romantic involvement between
daughter Alice and Tony Kirby is en-
dangered at a dinner party which
was designed to bring the two
families closer, goes awry.
Jeana Spurlock plays the female
lead of Penelope Sycamore. Jeana
has been in the One-Act Play for four
years, receiving Honorable Mention
and All-Star Cast awards at the
Zone, District and Area levels. Other
honors she has received include
Honor Thespian Award in 1986 and
the Best Thespian Award in 1987.
Manny Lunoff plays the male lead
of Grandpa, or Mr. Vanderhof. This
is Manny’s second year of participa-
tion in the One-Act Play. He is a
member of the International Thes-
pian Society, the NFL and other
campus organizations.

vacation families or the traveling

as $26.95 per day and truckers rates
as well as AARP discounts are of-
fered.
The office is open 24 hours per day

Registration packets for the Texas
Educational Assessment of
Minimum Skills (TEAMS) exit test
for out-of-school examines are
available at the Odem High School
office.
Individuals who have not
previously passed both sections of
the TEAMS test but have met all
other graduation requirement may
retake the section or sections not
passed.
Registration packets must be ob-
tained at the high school and mailed
by Tuesday, April 12.
Test dates are Tuesday, May 3 for

City Council
As of Wednesday afternoon, one
person has filed for a place on the
Odem City Council ballot in the May
7 election.
Applying for Place 1 was Sandra
Zoe Ridgway. The application came
to the hands of City Secretary Billie
Jo Tennill shortly after four p.m.
Wednesday, March 16.
Although no other applications
have been received by the city
secretary, more are expected as
prospective candidates have only
until 5 p.m. next Wednesday, March
23, to file.

a workshop with the Department of
Highways and Public
Transportation and the mayors of
Aransas Pass, Ingleside, Sinton and
Gregory to discuss projected costs of
curbs and gutters and to study the
continuation of a new East and West
Route.
The court will take action after
more imput is provided by the
Department of Highways and Public
Transportaion, Edmondson said.
The court has until May 24 to ac-
cept the projects.
Total expected expenditures for
the eleven projects is $93,007,000.
Local governments are scheduled
to pay 100 percent of the cost for
right-of-way, but will be reimbursed
90 percent of the cost.
“I don’t want to give the impres-
sion that we don’t want to accept
responsibility, but we need more in-
formation,” Edmondson said.

Lee Announces Candidacy
For Precinct 2 Constable
Jerry Lee has announced his can-
didacy for Constable Precinct #2 on
the Democratic ticket.
Lee who is 38 years old has lived in
the area for 14 years and has been

active in the community.
He currently serves on the Little
League Board and coaches a Little
League and Soccer team.
Lee has been married to his wife
Alice for nine years. She has taught
at Odem Elementary for ten years.
He and his wife have two children,
Jennifer, five-years old and Jesse,
seven-years old.
“I am concerned with some of the
problems in the community that
have gone unresolved,” Lee said. He
added, “They need the attention of
someone who is concerned, and I
feel I can make a difference.”
“As a certified officer, I feel we
need an experienced person in the
position,” Lee said.
“I believe we need a constable with
knowledge, qualifications and work-
ing experience with people’s rights
under the law of the State of Texas. ”
“I’ve had experience as a chief of
police and a patrolman. I feel I know
the needs of the community.”
“I respectfully appreciate your
vote in the April 12 election.”

Principal Dan Baen has announc-
ed the names of 230 students earning
rank on the Odem Elementary
Honor Rolls for the fourth six weeks
of the school year.
