aid kit and thank you notes. On
Wednesday, the P.T.A. had a
Teacher Appreciation assembly.
Friday they had a luncheon for the
teachers.
The P.T.A. made everyone feel
special and appreciated. A heartfelt
thanks goes to the Odem Elemen-
tary P.T.A. for their thoughtfulness.
This time of year is particularly dif-
ficult for teachers and students. The
kindness the P.T.A. shows boosts
teacher morale and helps us over
“rough” spots.
Thank you for a Super Week!

.....7asi.de from the fact that the
yards and fields are just now beginn-
ing to green up, the calendar says
that come March 21, we officially
start spring. That means green
should become the prevailing color.
However, there’s another date
which over the years, has meant
green in our family. March 17 is St.
Patrick’s Day, and while we were
by GEORGE F. RIGOTTI
always a bit prone to the wearin’ of
the green, after That Gal brought
Irish into the family, we really got
with it, and it has been a family
tradition for many years.
-gfr-
......one of the things that has
always been a high spot in our
observance of St. Pat’s Day are the
toasts. We’ve found them humorous,
witty, serious, and thought-
provoking.
A power outage can strike without warning. Sudden high winds,
electrical storms or tornados may damage power lines and shut
down substations. Accumulated ice and snow may cause struc-
tural, mechanical or electrical breakdowns. What will you do
when the lights go out?
Prevent an inconvenience from becoming a major problem by
taking these simple precautions:
C> Set aside an emergency drawer that is easy to locate in
darkness and stock it with a battery-powered radio, a
flashlight and a supply of fresh batteries for both.
£> Store a supply of candles, or an oil lamp and oil, in a safe,
cool place.
i> Assemble an emergency supply of non-perishable, easily
prepared food (freeze-dried, canned) and disposable eating
utensils.
i> Keep on hand a gallon of liquid bleach to sterilize and
sanitize food preparation areas, utensils and toilet facilities.
C> Maintain fuel levels in vehicle tanks and natural gas tanks,
and stock adequate supplies of wood for wood-burning
heaters, cookstoves and fireplaces.

happiest day of your past.” And on

doctors hear when they listen

also turns green on the 17th of March
each year, closes it all by saying:
“That the doctor might never earn a

clear of misfortune. And, I hope,
that before you are much older, you

Correction
In the front page story last week
concerning Odem Cable TV, the
Oderh-Edroy Times incorrectly
reported that Athena Cablevision
was the parent company of Odem
Cable TV.
According to Ray Denny of Odem
Cable TV, Athena was restructured
in mid-1987 and is no longer Athena
hut TCI Cablevision of Texas, Inc.
The story incorrectly noted that
subscribers are offered the Movie
Classics channel on the basic «
package. This should have read that
the American Movie Classics chan-
nel is offered to subscribers.

Mobile Home Rights: Shopping for
a ipobile home?
Be careful. A large number of
manufactured housing retailers are
going out of business these days. If
you buy a home from a dealer who
later closes his doors, you will have
a hard time getting you warranties
honored.
Texas manufactured housing
dealers are required by the Texas
Department of Labor and Standards i.
to post $50,000 bonds to protect con-
sumers in case they go out of
business. Manufacturers must put
up bonds of $100,000. Make sure who
you deal with is bonded. And be
aware that some dealers head-
quartered in neighboring states but
who sell in Texas, pr to Texans, are
not bonded.
Before you buy a home, check with
the Better Business Bureau or the
AG’s Consumer Protection Division
to see whether their have been com-
plaints against the dealer you are
planning to patronize.
