Dawn Swan Places
At Talent Contest
Dawn Swan, 14-year-old daughter
of Hubert and Julie Mareth, per-
formed at the Regional Showstopper
Talent Competition held in San An-
tonio Feb. 28.
Performing individually and with
the Cindy Girls Dance Team, Sawn
came home with four first place
awards and two second place
awards.
All first and second place winners
are eligible to proceed to the Na-
tional Talent Competition held in
Los Angeles, Calif, this summer.
Dancing since the age of three,
Dawn is an accomplished dancer in
ballet, jazz and tap. She has many
awards to her credit and has per-
formed nationally from Las Vegas,
Neveda to Washington, D. C.
Swan is an eighth grader at Odem
Junior High.
Commodities
To Be Given
Next Monday
The San Patricio County Com-
munity Action will be distributing
commodities in Edroy and Odem
next Monday, March 21.
The Odem distribution site is at
the Senior Citizens Center and in
Edroy, commodities will be
distributed at the church parish hall.
Distribution is set to begin at 12
noon at both sites.

Ryan Barnett Feted
With Birthday Party
Deputy Sheriff Charles Jones
deputized Ryan Barnett (The Lone
Ranger) on his fourth birthday, Feb.
18.
He presented Ryan with a real
sheriff’s badge from the collection of
Deputy Sheriff Leroy Moody.
Present at the birthday party were
Nicholas and Angela Lee, Clay,
, Aubrey and Jordan Hall, Sarah and
Hanna Hulin, Lauren and Randy
Laughlin, Nathan, Zachary and
Ryan Rippstein, Trevor and Billy
Morris, Heath Rackley, Justin
White, Matt Curtiss, and Jeremy
and Michelle Nunez.
After viewing a video tape of
“Lady and the Tramp,” hot dogs,
chips and lemonade were served.
The birthday cake was a five car
choo-choo train with a green engine
and a little red caboose made by
Ryan’s mother.
Ryan is the son of Rev. and Mrs.
Don Barnett.
Walt Disney Movie
Shown At Library
The Aristocats, a Walt Disney pro-
duction, will be showing at the Odem
Public Library Saturday, March 19
at 2 p.m.
A cast of fanciful felines takes
center stage for this animated tale
based on a true story of Parisian
cats that become heirs to a fortune
in the early 1900’s.
The movie is free and open to the
public.

Workshop Scheduled
The Palmer Drug Abuse Program
(PDAP) and several organizations
have joined forces to bring Dr.
Stephen Glenn for a one day
workshop on “Developing Capable
Young People.”
Dr. Glen is a recognized authority
on family issues.
The workshop is scheduled for
Saturday, March 26 from 10 a.m. to 4
p.m. at the Corpus Christi Marriott
Hotel.
Gary Leach, director of PDAP
said, “...Dr. Glenn will be one of the
most informative dynamic and en-
thusiastic speakers to come to our
area.”

Tweety Bird' Party Fetes
Nina Rodriguez On Birthday
Nina Celeste Rodriguez of Odem
was feted with a birthday party on
Sunday, Feb. 28, at the home of her
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacinto
Marin.
Hosting the party in celebration of
their daughter’s first birthday were
Richard and Sandra Rodriguez.
Guests were served barbecue
chicken with all the trimmings and
“Tweety Bird” birthday cake for
dessert.
For entertainment, the children
took turns swinging at a candy-filled
“Tweety Bird” pinata. Javier Veliz
Jr. received a prize for breaking the
pinata.
The children also had the oppor-
tunity to meet “Tweety Bird” and
“Sylvester” played by the honoree’s
Aunt Lisa Marin and Karen Parker.
Among the special guests in atten-
dance were Nina’s grandparents,
Jacinto and Delia Marin and Pete
and Alice Rodriguez. Also her great-
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Antonio
Bargas.
Other guests included Eva and
Grade Ortiz, Annette Ortiz, Tam-
mie, Nicole and Amy Ortiz; Sonny,
Nicole, Sonia and Jeanette Bargas;
