that have been de-
ferred In the summer and fall
are showing signs of Improve -
iring the droughty
conditions that have existed the
past meiral years. V. C. Brad-
ford. who owns farmland north-
east af Ooldthwalte, reports the
trees in good coodltion In the
peston that has been resting
for the pest three months.
Several years ego when Bred
purchased this place, the grasses
in aB the pastures were In poor
condition. A deferment program
was started In the back pasture,
It having the least amount of
brush present. As a result of
those deferments the grass has
Improved. Fifteen to twenty dif-
ferent kinds of the better grass-
es were found In the pasture.
Some areas where extra protec-
tion was available, the grass
was over waist high.
Mr. Bradford stated that at
one time he had planned to do
some pitting or build some small
dikes to hold the water that fell.
With the amount of grass cover
present on the pasture now very
Utile of the water that-falls gets
away.
This one pasture has shown
Brad that with a little help from
the landowner rangee can be
brought back to a productive
state.

During the past few yean co-
operators of the Brown-Mills
Soli Conservation District have
seeded many acres of grass
which have never produced a
seedling. Lowell Burkes, near
Caradan, tells of seeding King
Ranch bluestem on his farm
three years ago. During the
three years he has been unable
to find any K. R. plants in the
eded area. Since the spring
and summer rains this year
Lowell Is noticing small seedlings
appearing in the eeeded area
Upon cioaar examination these
Plante are proving to be K. R.
plants from the seed planted
three years ago.
