Since the officials of the
state in charge of the two mat*

perhaps months what is need'I
ed, these in conference with
House and Senate leaders ought
to have the whole thing ironed
out and able to pass the need-
ed legislation in a week and re-
turn home.
If that is done it would set
a record of legislative efficiency
to call down congratulations up-
on the lawmakers from all over
Texas. May it be s6.
WON’T GROW OLD
Miss Alice Fazende drank a toast
the other day to the love of a man.
That man wasn't there.
There were present many people
who love Miss Alice. But the man
she loved has been gone three-quar-
ters of a century. He went away
to fight for a man named Jeff
Davis. They were going to get
married when he could come back.
He didn’t come(' back.
That was in 1861. When Miss
Alice celebrated her birthday last
week she drank a toast to the man
to whom she gave her promise.
The papers says she is 100 yean
old. She reaJly isn't of course.
Maybe she has lived that long. Bat
a lady who lhrea with love in her
heart never get that old.—Tyler
Courier-Timea.

Tried and
True
Before a man can qualify to be a private in an
army he must be able to pass some rigid tests.
Many men are not accepted.
They cannot qualify.
Before those who are taken on trial can be promot-
ed they must have proven their merits.
In examining recruits for aviation &|id other speci-
alized forms of service, most thorough and exacting
tests are required. Some of these who have tried have
proven true. ■
These principles apply to advertising. Tests are
made. Some have tried mimeographed circulars and
found them fallen by the wayside. Others have tried
folders. These go to the wastebasket Others have
proven that the newspaper—an invited guest in the
home—ia given most reader cosideration. STILL
OTHERS have tried and found true a specialized com-
bination of direct mail and newspaper advertising.
