This is what the Baltimore Sun says of
the late Secretary with the “little bell:”
“Mr. Seward was, no doubt, a man of emi-

The “Young Ladies’ Social Club,” of
Austin, have called a meeting, and severely
censured the local editor of the States-
man for his course, vulgar and uncalled for
criticisms upon tbeir street costumes.
Qltce doubtless has not forgotten the lea.
eon a woman taught him a year or so ago,
on the streets of Austin, with a cowhide,
and will hereafter stear dear of the Austin
girls. If not, “we shall see what we shall

The Dallas Herald says M. M. Pomf.eot
has called a Greenback Cooper and Cary
convention, to meet at Dallas on the 11th
of this month, for the purpose of nominat-
ing electors for the Cooper and Cary tick-
et, and perfecting a State organization. But
the 11th lias come and gone, and we have
heard nothing of the convention. Like

A Mr. Moloxy was shot in

And now comes the Boston Post, pub-
lished wav up i i Massachusetts, where se-
cession first originated in this country, and
prints a story to the effect that Zach Chan-
dler is thorot ghly alarmed, and has-con-
cluded that it M ill be impossible for Hayes
to succeed. A plan has been matured to
have Hayes withdrawn in the event that
Ohio goes Democratic, and Grant is to be
placed at the h sad of .the ticket. It is
argued that if 1 [ayes cannot carry bis own
$tate, it would oe folly to keep him on the
hah, and that Grant is the only man who
can rally the fo roes. Butler and Blaine
are in this bugi less, and it is certain that
Grant’s irnme Hate friends and flatterers,
including sever ai who were fbrmeriy in the
Confederate an ny, are highly elated over
the prospect, a id one ex-Confedierate, but
not a fighting'one, has expressed the hope
th«t the Demo rats would carry Ohio, and
thus compel ths adoption of the scheme
which he is certain could be made a suc-
cess.
. As a preliminary movement in this hold
and desperate < oup d’tat on the political
chessboard, Chandler is to arrange with
several Republ lean organs in different parts
of the country to immediately demand the
substitution of Grant tor Hayes, should
the Ohio and I idiana elections prove dis-
astrous. i 1 j- i
We have already informed our readers
that it was the flxfedf determination of the
party in power never to give up their bold
upon the reins of government in this coun-

sueve que peut, that runs along the line?
Is the fate of M exico aud the South Ameri-

revolution of IP96, attended with the crimes
and Mood of Robksj ikr. Murat and Dan-

enough left in the country to save the re-

people of this < ountty, North and South, 1
