With Rousing Kickoff
The company kicked off its first Summer Food Drive on Monday,
June 4, with lunchtime festivities on the factory 50-foot aisle.
The event included vocal performances by Becky Arterbury, a
text data processor in the Material Department; a kazoo band com-
posed of A-12 workers; an appearance by "Can Man," portrayed
by Material Control employee Mike Terrell; and a lively danceroutine by several employees dressed as cancan dancers.
Vice President and General Manager Charlie Anderson and Jim Mercurio, Vice
President - Material, made remarks encouraging support for the June 4-15 drive.
"It's very important to this community for us to be able to keep the Food Bank
supplied... .the need in this community is great,"
Anderson said. "As little as $1 from each of our
employees would put us well over our goal."
Mercurio explained why a summer drive is be-
ing conducted: food reserves have been virtually
depleted since the area-wide drive held last fall.
In addition, needy children who receive free school
lunches lose this opportunity in the summer, in-
creasing the demand on service agencies.
Individual departments are now collecting
canned goods and money to help restock the Food
Bank. Hot dog tickets, redeemable in the Rose
Garden on June 18, are also being sold to raise
funds.
Departments are competing for the "Can Man
Trophy."
The county Food Bank distributes food to the
