THESE BIG DRIVE wheels are taller than most little girls, points out Doug Miller, a member of the
Texas State Railroad Historical Park staff. An explanation of how the big steam locomotive works is
provided to Amy Walters, 8, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Walters of Richardson. She is one of
many youngsters who take advantage of the opportunity to experience steam railroading at this
unique state park located at Rusk and Palestine in East Texas. The ancient trains operate Thursdays
through Mondays with departure promptly at 11 a.m. For additional information, contact the park at
1-800-442-8951 (in Texas) or 214-683-2561. -texas parks photo by Charlie maple
MR AND MRS. CHARLEY CHRISTOPHER, center, are July winners of the Rusk Garden Club "Yard
of the Month.” At left is Bea Jansen and, at right, Mary Lowhon, of the Rusk Garden Club. Mr. and
Mrs. Christopher have a colorful and well manicured front and back yard at 602 Crockett St. He is a
retired postal employee and the lawn is his hobby. This photo was taken in the back yard, which is
decorated with expansive flower beds, hanging plants and trellis. -staff photo
