I. C. O. R.
May 7th marks the second anniver-
sary of the Jewish autonomous terri-
tory in Biro-Bidjan. The Houston
branch of the "Icor” pans to celebrate
this eventful day by organizing a meet-
ing to celebrate the significance of
this first and only autonomous Jewish
republic in the world, which is mak-
ing enormous economic' and cultural
strides at a time when the Jews in
other countries are bring persecuted
and driven back to the ghetto. This
celebration takes place at a rime when
the Jewish people of this country are
about to send the widest and most
representative delegation possible, a
truly people’s delegation, to Biro-
Bidjan in order to acquaint themselves
with the true facts about this Jewish
Republic and report back to the Jews
of America.
The horrible situation in Poland
where three million Jews are living in
constant fear of being annihilated
through progroms, massacre and star-
vation, is in striking contrast to this
glorious chapter in Soviet National
Policy—the Biro-Bidjan Republic. In
the light of the increasing atrocities
carried out against die Jews at the
instigation of the German fascist gov-
ernment, the celebration of an inde-
pendent Jewish republic in another
part of the globe is important enough
for all Jews to set aside political dif-
ferences and join us in this celebra-
tion. This should serve as a basis for
unking all Jews in Houston in a com-
mon effort to:
1. Protea the interests of our broth-
er Jews in other countries.
2. Combat the spread of anri-Satn-
. irism and Fascism in this country.
3. Help send a true people’s dele-
gation to Biro-Bidjan.
We wish Co name some of the
prominent men in America who are
endorsing the call for the de leg a ton:
Hon. Judge Harry M. Fishery Han.
Judge Samuel Heller, Rabbi Nathan
Budzinsky, Rabbi George Fox, L.
Kobrin, 8. Z. Goldberg, Reuben Brai-
nia, Dean Edith Abbott, Prof. A. J.
Carbon, James Waterman Wise, Har-
ry F. Ward, Meta Berger and many
others.
We are certain that you will wish
to respond heartily to this call The
rime and place of the meeting will be
announced in the near future.
