Drr and B. F. Wilkeraon were in
Denton Tuesday inspecting the
municipal light plant ol mat city.
A meeting was held in the city had
with the mayor of Denton and lUe
other officials and the books were
inspected in order that the commit-
tee might he able to ascertain UxI
exact cost of operating in that cilj.
In discussing the trip with the re-
porter of Hie Wheel, Mayor McCall
said, We are thoroughly sold on
the idea ol installing a municipal
plant in Ferns, for tlie reason that
in ail towns we liuve visited wo
have found that money is not only
oelug saved, but tiiat the plants are
actually making big money for the
cities Involved. At Denton we
found the plant had netted a profit
of >1 iio.iioo last year, and in fact
ib« city Is now using the proceeds
of the plant for operating the cilv
government and have money left
over. In other words for every dol<
lar paid in for electric service to the
customer, 85 cents of that money ta
turned back to the citizens in the
way of improvements. The rates
in Denton are: 1st 20 kw, 10 cent*
per kw; next 30 kw, at 7c per kw.
and all overl that amount at Scents
per kw Thus it lean be seen at a
glance that Denton is saving thous-
ands of dollars annually to the citi-
zens. Last year the city spent
$08,000 out of the earnings of the
plant for paving streets, and this
year a white way Is being built In
all parts of the city. Denton has
been offered $1,200,000 for he mu-
nicipal plant, but refused to sell at
any price.
An investigation was also made
of the plant at Sanger, a small
town near Denton, and it was learn-
ed that since Sanger has installed
her own plant they retired $50.tMH)
of city isinds in addition to paying
for the plant and spending $2,500
for improvements An election held
nt Sanger to determine whether ot
not the people wanted the plant sold
