TEMPLE LEAGUE PLAYERS
TO PRESENT “ANOTHER
LANGUAGE” MARCH 1-2
Michael
leading
Cyrelle Finston and
Gordon will take the
roles of Stella and Victor Hallam
in the Temple League’s presen-
tation of “Another Language,
Rose Franken’s three act comedy
drama, under the direction of
William Munro, next Monday and
Tuesday nights, March 1st and
2nd, at the Abe M. Levy Me-
morial Hall.
Miss Finston, as Stella, is the
artistic daughter in law who tries
to preserve the romance of her
marriage to Victor against the
Hallam clan. As Mary in “Mary
of Scotland,” produced in Los
Angeles, Calif., Miss Finston
won high praise for her per
formance in that role. She was a
member of the Curtain Chib at
the University of Texas and has
had varied and wide experience
in amateur theatrical perform-
ances in both Texas and on the
Pacific Coast.
Michael Gordon, playing Victor
Hallam. is well known for his
past work in Temple League
performances. He has played
with other organizations on the
Pacific Coast before coining to
Texas.
This play was a great favorite
during the days of its run on
Broadway and was later made
into a motion picture with Helen
Hayes as star.
Its plot deals with an every-
day American family whose in-
terests are concerned mainly
with material things—business,
card playing, and petty practi-
cal jokes on one another. An ar-
tistic daughter in law speaks “an
other language.” Her husband,

Victor, is halfway between the
romantic type and the patemed
Hallam son.
Jerry, a Hallam nephew, por-
trayed by Felix Meyer, whose
ambition to study in Paris has
been throttled by his parents
finds in his Aunt Stella someone
to discuss mutual interests in the
finer things of life. He falls in
love with her, and from then on
the play assumes a tempo of
tense conflicts between the two
sides of the family.
Deft humor adds an amusing
quality to the series of swift
caricatures of the Hallam family.
The cast is exceptionally strong
and includes Jerome Levy, Mar-
jorie Meyer, Joseph Kost, Jean-
nette Gerson. Melvin Gordon,
Mrs. Harold Hecht, Jack Colbert
and Francine Lesser.
Dr. Abner Burg is production
manager of the show and is as-
sisted by Bessie Levin who is ifa
charge of costumes and Sidney
Bromberg who is designing and
executing the sets.

Young Judaean
Rally
To inaugurate the spirit of
Purim among the Jewish youth
of Houston in an entirely new
manner, the Houston Young Ju-
daeans are starting a cultural-
social activity plan.
Under the auspices of the
Houston Young Judaean Council,
‘This Is the Land,” a talking,
moving picture will be presented
at the Uptown Theatre, Sunday
morning, February 28th, at 10
o’clock.
According to critics who view-
ed this picturein New York, it is
a “highly interesting and impres-
sive photoplay, telling in graphic
manner the story of fifty years
of Jewish upbuilding work in
Palestine.”
More than that, those of Texas
Jewry who were fortunate
enough to see ‘This Is the Land”
went away entertained and en-
lightened.
Included on the program will
be an inspiring address by Rabbi
Charles Blumenthal of Waco,
honorary -state sponsor of Young
Judaea, whose short speech will
be enjoyable to both young and
old folks.
The committee in charge in-
vites not only the Jewish youth
but also the parents to come and
be enthralled at the profound
courage and indomitable will of
the builders of the Jewish Na-
tional Home. Young Judaea asks
nothing in return save that you
come and enjoy yourselves.
There is no admission charge.
