y Miss Gail Elaine Cluiss and
Jesse Rhea Bownds were united
in marriage Saturday evening,
. Oct. 20. Performing the double-
ring ceremony was Rev. Ber-
nard Ritchea of Ganado,
formerly of Sinton.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Cluiss of Sin-
ton. The groom is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. John C. Bownds of
Odem.
The front church pews were
decorated with white bows and
on both sides of the communion
rail stood spiral candelabras
filled with white taper candles
and laced with greenery. Cut-
tings of English ivy adorned the
communion rail itself. A large
green and white flower ar-
rangement decorated the altar.
Mrs. Cindy Skinner of Wichita
Falls sang “There Is Love”, ac-
companied by Mrs. Bobbie May
on the organ.
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride chose an ivory
street-length dress of chiffon.
The softly gathered bodice was
edged at the neck with a
spaghetti bow and gathered at
the waist with a lace belt. Her
full chiffor sleeves were
scalloped^ the bottom edges.
, The b ide wore her great-
grandmother’s wedding ring as
the - raditional “something old”
ardi her mother’s earrings as
'ne “something borrowed”.
A wreath of tiny silk flowers
■v and baby’s breath, accented
with small bows and ribbons
was worn by the bride and she
carried a matching bouquet of
white flowers and English ivy.
Serving the bride as maid of
honor was Miss Laura Lowe of
Odessa, who wore a street-
length dress of taupe chiffon.
The bridesmaid, Miss Jeannie
Cluiss of Sinton, sister-in-law of
the bride, wore a street-length
dress of deep blue chiffon. Both
attendants carried a bouquet of
silk flowers matching their
dresses. They also wore silk
flowers and baby’s breath in
- their hair.
Best man for the wedding was
Johnny Bownds of Mason,
brother of the groom.
Groomsman was Ron Britt of
Pasadena. The groom and his
attendants wore dark suits.
For her daughter’s wedding,
Mrs. Cluiss wore a taupe and
cream chiffon street-length
dress.
The mother of the groom
wore a three-piece coral suit.
Immediately following the
ceremony, a reception was held
in the church fellowship hall.
Hanging baskets and greenery
decorated the hall.
The bride’s table was laid
with a white organza lace
tablecloth, which held a three-
tiered cake topped with a
porcelain dove. Fruit punch,
dips, chips, homemade mints,
and mixed nuts were also serv-
ed. Serving guests at the bride’s
table were Mrs. Hannah Cluiss
of Harlingen, sister-in-law of
the bride, Mrs. Donna Roecker
of Lelita, and Miss Starlet Fo-
jtik of Lewisville.
The groom’s table was laid
with a hand-embroidered white
linen tablecloth. A double-
ringed chocolate cake with
clusters of frosted grapes on top
and coffee, mints, and nuts
were served by Mrs. Joye Dyer
of Sinton, sister of the groom,
and Mrs. Angie Bownds of
Mason, sister-in-law of the
groom.
Hostesses in the house party
were Mesdames Rudy J. Lane,
Robert Day, Eugene
Brinkoeter, Charlie Ritchea,
Calvin Karr, David Martin, Dan
Grissett, Royce Little, and E.
D. Dubose III.
The bride is a graduate of Sin-
ton High School and the groom
is a graduate of Odem High
School. Both are graduates of
Stephen F. Austin State Univer-
sity.
After a short wedding trip,
the couple will reside in Center
where he is employed by Bruce
Hardwood Floors as a timber
buyer.
Mrs. Lloyd David was releas-
ed from Riverside Hospital last
Saturday. She is presently
resting at home and feeling
much better.
Mrs. Lorene Miller and Mrs.
0. W. Nolen were in San Antonio
Sunday afternoon to visit Dean
Miller in the Audie Murphy
Veterans Hospital, where he
was re-admitted last week. The
ladies were then overnight
guests in the home of Mr. and
Mrs. 0. W. Nolen, Jr. of San An-
tonio. On their return trip, they
visited briefly with Mrs. Robert
Hartman of Skidmore, and ar-
rived in Odem Monday after-
noon.
Mrs. Quida Lockard has been
admitted to the Riverside
Hospital in Robstown, where
she is undergoing tests.

ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED- Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Gray of
Sinton announce the engagement and approaching marriage
of their daughter, Alice Ruth, to Jerry Wayne Lee. The cou-
ple will exchange vows at the First Baptist Church in Odem
on Nov. 17 at 5 p.m. Friends of the couple are invited to at-
tend.

Miss Bettinae Ann Story and
Mr. David Allen Pressley were
united in marriage at the First
Baptist Church of Odem, Satur-
day, Nov. 3 at 10:00 a.m., with
Claude Jacks, minister of the
First Baptist Church, reading
the vows.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. John E. Story of
Odem. The groom is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Pressley of
Sandia.
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride wore a floor-
length wedding gown of silk
organza with lace trim and
daisies. Her illusion veil with
daisy cap was trimmed in seed
pearls. She carried a bouquet of
white carnations, daisies and
spider mums with baby’r
breath. For something old an

great-grandmother’s watch.
Mrs. Lynn Perrin of Portia ,d
served as matron-of-honor. 5 ,ie

dress trimmed with aqua

Special attendant to the bride
was Miss Barbara Bentley of
Odem. Mrs. Gordon Story of
Odem attended the guest
register and Miss Cora Lea
West of Odem delivered the
flowers.
Attending the groom as best
man was Bert Hamm of Orange
Grove. Ushers were Alan Slater
of Orange Grove and Richard
Story of Odem.
Organ music was provided by
Sharon Thompson.
Following the ceremony, a
reception was given by the
bride’s parents.
Decorations for the reception
were carried out in the wedding
colors of yellow, pale green and
white. The bride’s table was
covered with a white lace cloth

Mrs. Carrie Fuqua and Mrs.
Theda Welch were in Corpus
Christi on business Friday. The
two ladies also visited their
sister, Mrs. A. W. Taber, while
they were in town.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Olander of
Poteet arrived Sunday to visit
in the home of their good
friends, Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Belyeu. The Poteet couple plan
to spend several days in the
Belyeu home.
Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Stalcup
were in Austin over the
weekend where they visited in
the home of their son, Mr. and
Mrs. Gary Stalcup. They also
enjoyed attending the football
game between the University of
Texas and Texas Tech.
Mrs. J. R. Petrus returned
from a 10-day visit in Rockport,
where she cared for her sister,
Mrs. Ida Smith. Mrs. Smith had
been in the hospital before her
sister’s visit.

candles. The three-tiered bridal
cake was decorated with daisies
and wedding bells, fresh yellow
daisies and English ivy. Punch
was served from a crystal
punch bowl. All other table set-
tings were silver.
The groom’s table was laid
with a green table cloth trimm-
ed with yellow daisies and
centered with a fruit arrange-
ment and yellow daisies. A Ger-
man chocolate cake topped with
frosted grapes and coffee were
served with a gold table ser-
vice.
Those serving included:
Misses Sheryl McCauley, Becky
Pressley, Tina Pressley, Tracy
Reeves and Beth Sherman.
Rice bags were distributed by
Misses Donna Drake and
Patricia Bascom.
Some of the out-of-town
guests were Bettinae’s grand-
mother, Mrs. B. R. Runowicz of
San Antonio, David’s grand-
parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. L.
Harper of Taft, Mr. and Mrs.
