WALTER JENKINS
Walter Jenkins has retired as
minister of music at First Meth-
odist Church, Houston. We know
him, and have heard him and
his beautiful wife sing at the
Methodist Home in Waco many
times. We wish we had a re-
cording of the wav they sing
“Make Believe.” It’s out of this
world!
Walter has led the singing at
27 Rotary International Con-
ventions, all over the world.
A friend says the most use-
ful training he received during
four years in college was the
proper method of opening a
beer can to keep the contents
from spewing. He might have
added with implicit veracity
that his knowledge functions
better if someone else furnishes
the beer. — Douglas Meador.
NOSTALGIA
The following ad appeared in
the Record-Chronicle Feb. 11,
1919, while we were working in
the bank (now First State) a
few feet from the late Mr. J. P.
Magee’s office. J. P.’s body is
in the mausoleum near the east
end of the IOOF cemetery. He
was a fine man, and a great
friend, and a former schoolmate
of Mr. Haltom, founder of the
Haltom Jewelry Co., Fort Worth.
They both grew up in Bowie.
Come and live in Denton
where the best schools are lo-
cated, and where men are do-
ing things, and give your in-
surance to J. P. Magee and re-
ceive the best service (not per-
fect, however). But nearly so,
as human hands can make it.

T. HERBERT MINGA
This “Conference Year” will
complete the six-year term of
Herb Minga as the superinten-
dent cf the Denton District oi
the Methodist Church. Our
friend “Herb” is an able man
and a hard worker. Just, for in-
stance, the following from the
Denton District News:
In checking over the improve-
ments which have been made in
the Denton District during the
past six years, we find the fol-
lowing results:
Six new sanctuaries have
been built, and a seventh one
is to be built at Bridgeport this
year.
Fifteen Educational Buildings
ha^e been erected.
Seven parsonages have been
built- The eighth parsonage will
be built at Argyle before An-
nual Conference.
Thirty churches have been re-
paired and redecorated.
Thirteen churches have been
air-conditioned-
Excellent 'Shofer.'
Herb is our favorite driver,
and he is never too busy to
drive this editor any place he
wants to go- As this is written
we have iust returned from
meeting of the Commissioners
of the Methodist Home at Waco.
This was one of the most in-
spirational meetings we have
attended in the twenty years
we have served on the execu-
tive committee of the Commis'
sioners. We will be 80 next fall
and we have asked Hubert John-
son to appoint one of the sev-
eral fine men available in our
place on the Committee. We
hope to remain a member of
the commission a while longer.
'TWELVE MEN'
“Ann Minga has sold eight
hundred copies of her book,
‘Twelve Men.’ She has two hun-
dred copies left- If there arc
those who would like to have
one of these books to give as a
Christmas present, they can oi
der them directly from Ann or
the Cokesbury Book Store in
Dallas. ’’_
