Local Illiteracy Workshop
' * / V- . *
Scheduled Next Monday
t
Illiteracy is a major ^problem in
Texas! There are 700,000 adults who
are functional illiterates in the State
of Texas, according to recent surveys.
Baylor Literacy Center has' esti-
mated that 750 of these 700,000 are
residents of Young County.
These people cannot read their
Bible or their newspaper, and life
would have more meaning if they
could learn to read. - ■■
You can teach someone to read by
attending the literacy workshop for
teachers, to be held 7:00 p.m., Mon-
day, March 26, in the chapel of the
First Baptist Church, Graham.
This workshop is being sponsored
by the Throckmorton-Young Associa-
tional V/.M.tl. for all interested
groups: Press, radio, welfare agen-
cies, school people, city officials, and
civic club members.
Rev. James C. Allison, pastor of the
Loving Baptist Church, will conduct
the clinic. Further information may
be obtained by contacting Mrs. Eu-
gene Matthews, Associational W.M.U.
