According to Game Warden
Carlton Becker issuance date for
doe permits will be October 30-31
from 8 a m. to 5 urn upstairs at
the Bandera County Court House.
Warden Becker said this year
there "will not be any shooting
books issued wjth the license The
land owner is not required to have
a record book, but must have a
shooting preserve license only
when leasing his land for hunting
game animals and game birds
He also warned that discharging
firearms on a public road is a
violation of the law
Those who are unable to pick up
their doe permits on October 30-31.

Bandera Night
in Houston
On Saturday, October 17,
Bandera Night will be held in
Houston at the Esquire Ballroom,
11410 Hempstead Highway.
Years ago this was an annual
event, and this year it will be

reported the October 4-5 activities
as follows: 20 traffic. violajion
arrests, one suspect released
from DWI .charge due to low
breath results; one hit and run
accident resulting in minor
property damage and slight in-
jury
Deputy Sheriff Mel Lemons
reports two arrests for drunkeness
in a public place on September 28
and on September 1, two arrests
for burglary and possession of
marijuana
School Construction
Construction of the new
$1,767,250 Bandera High School
began Sunday with Ground-
breaking ceremonies at the site of
the new school. Approximately
three hundred dignitaries, local
citizens, and guests attended.
Charles H Hundley, superin
tendent of schools, presided at the
Groundbreaking The invocation
was given by Monsignor Bruno
Hubertus of St Stanislaus Catholic
‘Church and was. followed by the
playing of the Star Spangled
Banner and Texas, Our Texas by
the Bandera High School Band
under the direction of Hon Pierce.
The large crowd w as w elcomed by
Roger Stevens, president of the
board of trustees of the Bandera
Independent School District
Superintendent Hundley in
troduced the dignitaries and
guests who attended the
ceremony. Trustees of the Ban-
dera Independent School District
were introduced Those present
were Roger Stevens, Dan
Tschirhart, Rudy Schott, and
Thomas Keese Don Hicks was
unable to attend but was
represented on the platform by his
son, Tim Hicks.
The following former trustees
were introduced Arthur Erfurt,
G T' Sandidge, Jr,, Cecelia Sch-
rnidtke, and Warren Wheeler, The
late A B Lewis, former school
board president, was represented
bv Sallie Lewis. Marvin C.
Schnelle, superintendent of
schools from 1957 to 1973, was

Shortcourse Offered
A Beef Cattle Shortcourse is
Ire mg offered in two night sessions
at The Bandera Recreation Center
starling on Thursday, October 16,
at 8:00 p m Dr James Arm
strong, Extension Project Leader
in Veterinary Medicine and
Livestock Health, will present
part of the program the first
evening Dr. Armstrong will
discuss vaccination programs and
prevention of animal diseases, He
will discuss the Brucellosis
program and anthrax. Dr James
Stewart, Extension Entomologist,
will discuss insecticides and
control of internal and external
parasites.
On Thursday, October 23, Dr
Leroy Hoermann will be the
principal speaker. He will discuss
beef cattle nutrition and beef
cattle management techniques
Both of these programs should
lx* of interest to beef cattle
■ producers even if-you have only a

The Third Annual Shrimp Boil
was held at Flying L on Thursday,
October 2, to wind up this year's
Membership Drive There were
about 150 people present
The shrimp was excellent, and
assorted covered dishes and hush
puppies accompanied the shrimp
CoLDuquette was presented with a
birthday cake during the evening
Many thanks go Marilyn Deane
and Jack Jones for boiling the
shrimp; to Barry Williams for
catching the shrimp; to Paul
Guzzardo and Richard Weber for
frying the hushpuppies; to Col
Duquette for his work on the
Membership Drive; and to
everyone who helped with the
event

The Bandera County Public
Library which has been closed for
several weeks due to being
remodeled and refurnished, will
re-open for business on October 15,
according to Mrs Judy Blucher,
Bandera County Librarian
Library hours will be as usual
from 10 a m to 7 m Monday and
from 10 a m to 6 m Wednesday
and Friday
The public is invited to come and
view the beautiful new interior of
the library, and also to watch for
the formal'opening
Bandera played a tough team
when they met the Poteet Aggies.
Poteet has been having a good
season and 4 wins in a row is
evidence Last Friday they upped
their record to 5 in a row by
defeating the Bulldogs 31-6.
The Bulldogs came out looking
good in the 1st quarter The hall
exchanged hands several times
before Poteet quarterback ran 35
yards tor the lirst score The extra
point failed, the score was 12-0
going into the 2nd quarter During
the second quarter Poteet came
back again with their quarterback
scoring, making the score 18-0 at
half
, In the 3rd quarter. Poteet
sparked for another drive ending
with a touchdown making the
score 24-0 Poteet scored once
more in the 3rd making it 31-0. In
the 4th quarter Bandera's defense
held up and scored a touchdown on
a 70 yard fumble return by Keith
Boyd The two point conversion
attempt failed leaving the final
score 31-6. 1

co-sponsored by the First State
Bank and the First National Bank
-of Bandera, and the County Ex-
tension Service, will be held on the
Pipe Creek Ranch The ranch is
located 4 miles North of Pipe
Creek Road signs and red
flagging tape will direct visitors to
the ranch The ranch is -owned by
Mrs P G Northrup and operated
by Tony Jennings.
