For John Floore
Funeral services were held
last F'riday, October 3 at" 11
am in the Riebe-Saunders
Chapels for John T Floore -
honorary mayor of Helotes-and
longtime owner of famed Floore
Country Store. A civic leader here-
and the community’s best known
citizen--Mr. FToore died October 1,
1975, at the age of 77 years..
He was born in Troup, Texas in
Smith County, South of Tyler some
250 miles from here, but most of
his life was spent in San Antonio,
the Valley, and Helotes.
Mr. Floore was in business in
Helotes for 32 ye^rs, and his
Country Store was the setting for
Country 4 Western music. He
numbered thousands of San An-
tonians among his friends and his
influence on the careers of C 4 W
stars was impressive.
Although he had sold his
business enterprise to longtime
associates Joe and Stella
Algueseva about two years ago
after his 75th birthday, he
remained a guiding force and
lived in his large apartment-built
for him in the 1950’s when the
Store moved to its present site
with "the World’s largest patio."
Mr. F'loore had not been in
robust health since 1973, but he
was still active, and his big snr4@At
five frame appeared strong, so
these who knew him best were
unprepared for his loss./
He was found shot Wednesday
morning at the entryway to the
store from his apartment by thosif
who came to open for the day’s
business before 10 a m An EMS
unit answered the call, but death
was attributed to a single head
wound A pistol was found nearby
and Dr Ruben Santos, county
medical examiner, returned a
verdict of death from a self-
inflicted wound
For many years, John T F’loore
was with Interstate Theaters and
he had a flairJor the theatre He
brought this sense of-drama to all
that he did, makinthis business one
of the best-known nuthe Nashville
circuit His opii^on ofl talent was
sought throughout fhe United
Slates and Canada and his en-
couragement kept many en-
tertainers in the professional
ranks'
