Baird — Record breaking crowds

Flags, bunting, and town colors

ran, Dublin, Cisco, Cross Plains, and
the host town kept Baird alive with
music. Luncheon was served to a
mammoth crowd in the Baird taber-

Crane City—A large delegation of
MeCnrpey Chamber of Commerce men
visited here recently to help organize
a local commercial body. The Crane
City Booster Club voted to change its

meree and voted to affiliate with the
West Texas Chamber of Commerce.
The town is one of the West’s leading
oil activity points.'
Ropesville — Work is progressing
nicely on the new Ropesville high
school. The school is under direction
of Superintendent (5. V. Roberts, and
is working on state affiliation.
Fort Davis—The major projects of
the Fort Davis Chamber of Commerce,
recently affiliated with the West Texas
Chamber of Commerce are: securing

Jim Bird of Fort Worth; while on
his way to Ranger to play ball stopped
in and spent Sunday night with his
uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Sam
Lidia.
Mr. and Mrs. O, T. Lidia of Baird,
Texas, canie down Thursday to see
about building a new house for his
father and mother, Mr. and Mrs, T. J.
Lidia, who had the misfortune of get-
ting burned out last Wednesday noon.
If the weather permits the friends and
neighbors will help Mr. Lidia this
week in the construction of his house.

Miss Velma Bell, who is attending
college at Stephenville spent last week
end with her sousin, Byrd Fitzgerald.
The Lone Oak-beys went to Harbin
last Friday and played baseball. We
expect the Harbin boys over Friday to
play the tie off.
Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Lookinghill and
family motored to Degdcitiona, Sunday
,io see his mother.
Raymond Williams, who is teaching
school at Rocky Point, came home this
week-end. j
Mrs. J. E. Fitzgerald and two
daughters are ‘visiting her mother in
Anson. '
-We will start the B. Y. P, U. up
again at Johnson next Sunday night.
Everyone is invited to come and be
with us.
One hundred twenty at prayer last
week. Miss Rawlings and Miss Eoff
have charge of the service this week.
Mildred Robinson leading the children
in a missionary program. Sunday
was a day of fine services, one addit-
ion, the afternoon service at Dublin
drew an overflow crowd. Delegations
from Carlton,-Alexander, Lingleville,
Comanche, Brownwhod • and large
crowd from Stephenville. Carlton in-
vited us to repeat the address in their
town. “Why All Churches Should
Unite in One Body” will be given at
Thurber 3 p. m. April 10.

vice,” 10:45 next Sunday.

The board of officers met Monday
night.

NIECE OF ED COLLIER DIED
AT STRATTON, SATURDAY
Ed Collier of this' city received a
message Saturday telling him of the
death of hjs niece, Miss Mary Belle
Collier, in Stratton, that day. Tim
young Ja^y was attending the Str.-ft
ton high school and would have gradu-
ated in Mhy. She'died at the home
of her grandmother, Mrs. Ebbersall at
§tratton. She was the eightcen-year-
old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. I. B.
Collier of Robert Lee in Coke county.
Mr. Collier, whose home was in Ste-
phenville for piany .years, is known
here as “Bat”. Collier. He was liked
by everybody who knew him.
Miss Collier, whose death was the
result of a relapse from influenza-
pneumonia, was buried at Stratton,
Sunday.
Mr, and Mrs. W. A. Rinker of Dal-
las were recent guests of Mr. and Mrs.
Oren Ellis of West Washington street.
Mr. Rinker is manager of the Dallas
department of the State Life Irtsur-
ance Company of which Mr. Ellis is a
district manager.__.
