posed 2007 fiscal year budget

forgetting to put them in there.

much as we possibly can without
pricing us out of the market. I’m

what we have,” Nardini said.

Monday.
The budget workshops that
were scheduled to run through
Friday last week finished up
early on Wednesday.
“We’ll have final discussion on
Monday," County Judge Terry
Simpson said Friday afternoon.
When the time came for the 1
court to consider and take action
on the 2007 fiscal year budget
two commissioners took the
opportunity to discuss some
things with the court.
Commissioner Nina Trevino
proposed to County Auditor
David Wdndel that $12,545 be
implemented into the budget to
cover her temporary employees.
Another commissioner who
trad—some concerns artcT
prospective changes for the1
budget was Jim Price.
•Price proposed to the court
that an additional $145,000 will
be needed in the current budget.
This amount will be set aside for
fueling the airplanes at T.P.
McCampbell Airport. He pointed
out that these additional funds
will compensate for the 10 to 15
new planes they may take on
next year.
In response, Judge Simpson
voiced his concern that over a
nine year period of time there
hasn’t been much of a fuel profit
to want to put more into it.
explained:-
Judge Simpson suggested
that perhaps County Attorney
David Aken look; into T.P.
McCampbell to help the court
have a better understanding of
where exactly the funds are
going.
Commissioner Price agreed
that a review of T.P. McCampbell
would be a good idea.
The court decided that the
funds for the fuel be implement-
ed into the 2007 budget.
This left one final issue under, the
budget to be discussed. The issue to
be voted on was whether or not to
add one cent to the road and bridge
tax rate.
“The cost of fuel and materials
Commissioner Trevino shared
with the court that a single mile of
road would cost her anywhere from
$26 to $36,000 just for materials.
This estimate is if they did the work
themselves.
“The money would help but it
won’t solve the problem,"
Commissidner Trevino said.
Commissioner Fred Nardini dis-
cussed with the court his concern
about taxpayers and the proposed
raise in the road and bridge tax rate.
“We talked all year long about no
tax increases. Taxpayers have been
hit enough,” Commissioner Nardini
said.
He went on to say that he won’t
vote for the increase in the future
unless absolutely necessary. To aid
in the road development expenses,
Commissioner Nardini has been
“We have problems with the
county roads. If we’re going to grow
it is going to cost money,” Judge
Simpson said. ,
The decision of whether Qrnot to
implement the new one cent road
and bridge tax raise came down to a
vote. ,
In a 2-3 vote, with Judge Simpson
and Commissioner Trevino being in
favor of the tax increase, the court
did not implement the one cent
increase to the road and bridge tax
rate.
Commissioner Nardini pointed
out that the court was able to take
care of the certificate of obligation for
the Showbam as well as give a 10
percent pay increase to employees.

Local residents Don Huckaby
and Ramon Solis had a warm
reception at their two-man show
of original art held at The Garcia
Center for Art Education in
Corpus Christ! Friday evening.
In and Out of Bounds featured
a “dramatic contrast in style and
medium” of the two artists.
Huckaby, a remodel contrac-
tor, specializes in fine custom-
designed furniture and cabinetry.
He holds an art degree from
Lamar University where he was
trained in various mediums.
He has lived in Sinton with his
wife Margie for six years and
said that he has always enjoyed
working in wood, sculpting and
furniture design.
He has recently begun to
explore the potential of metal in
furniture design saying that “the
possibilities are endless"
Solis and his wife Georgette
have lived in Odem for 14 years.
He feels that he was bom an
artist, instead of deciding it was
something he wanted to do.
Working mostly in oil, he likes
to create a living space which is
a combination of form and move-
ment.
' “I like for people to be com-
fortable with what they have
around them and enjoy their
space,” said Solis. *
Some of his work appeals as
performance pieces, allowing
people to connect with the work.
He also works in water color
and has recently begun using
metal.
David Vickers of Sinton who
has a masters in fine arts
degree, hung the show for the
artists.
