The man was a transient who lived in
Denton, according to police. His identity
has not yet been released, pending noti-
fication of family members.
Officers are investigating a motive
and working to identify a suspect in the
shooting, Kizer said Saturday.
This is the city’s second homicide
this year. On May 26, 41-year-old Er-
icka Santibanez was allegedly shot mul-
tiple times by her estranged husband in
an apparent murder-suicide at a Den-
ton apartment complex.

Police are investigating an apparent
homicide after officers found a man’s
body at a University Drive parking lot
early Saturday morning.
Officer Shane Kizer, spokesman for
Denton police, said dispatchers re-
ceived a call at 3:49 a.m. about gun-
shots fired at Denton Center, a shop-
ping area on University west of Carroll
Boulevard. Officers found the victim, a
51-year old Hispanic man, lying on the
asphalt between Drug Emporium and

During the 84th legislative session
that ended Monday, Texas lawmakers
spent countless hours politicking under
the Capitol dome in Austin.
Among them was a sextet of legisla-
tors who represent parts of Denton and
Denton County: Rep. Myra Crownover,
Rep. Tan Parker, Rep. Pat Fallon, Rep.
Ron Simmons, Sen. Jane Nelson and
Sen. Craig Estes.
The Denton Record-Chronicle re-
cently checked in with these elected of-
ficials to get their thoughts on the latest
session.

Construction on Argyle High
School athletic facility upgrades is
expected to wrap up in late Au-
gust, just as the new school year is
getting underway.
The upgrades, approved by vot-
ers in 2014, include new turf on
baseball and softball fields, added
seating at the football, baseball and
softball fields, new press boxes at
the baseball and softball fields, new
tennis courts, a girls field house,
football field restrooms, visitor con-
cessions and an indoor athletics
center with a 60-yard field.
