Police respond to call about
brothers fighting
A call about a fight led Den-
ton police to a pair of uncooper-
ative siblings and no arrests
Wednesday afternoon.
At a little after 2 p.m., officers
were dispatched to the report of
a fight in the 900 block of Hill
Street. It was reported that the
caller’s nephew was bleeding
and that he needed a unit out
there. When an officer arrived
and spoke to the 22-year-old, he
stated his brother, a 26-year-old
Denton man, hit him.
The victim had a cut near his
left eye and was bleeding, but he
was uncooperative and would
not allow the officer to photo-
graph his injury and would not
give a statement as to what had
happened.
The brother was found a
short time later and stated that
the younger man had grabbed
him and he fought him off so he
could leave.
Neither wanted to press
charges, the report said.

Roundup
From 7 a.m. Tuesday to 7
a.m. Monday:
“I’ve been around firearms
since I was about 8 years
old, and in fact own many
and have a CHL... I rarely
carry and dread the day I
would be in a situation
where I would need one. I
personally don’t think it’s
worth the risks involved.
— John Harazda,
on DentonRC.com
— Bj Lewis
“ It’s not like the campus
will be suddenly flooded
with firearms. Only a small
percentage of the population
has a CHL (many at UNT
aren’t even old enough) and
of those only a small per-
centage actually carry on a
regular basis.
Denton County Crime Stoppers will
pay a reward of up to $1000 for
information leading to an arrest in
these or other crimes. Callers will
remain anonymous. Call
1-800-388-TIPS (8477). Reach the
Denton police narcotics tip line at

‘Fill the Pantry’ events
planned in county
Saturday is the kickoff of sev-
eral events raising awareness
about ending hunger in Denton
County.
Within the next week, the

for distribution to food banks
across the region.

Lakes Park, 566 Hobson Lane.
Participants are encouraged to
bring canned goods or monetary
donations to support challenge
efforts. All runners will receive a
chip timer, and prizes will be
awarded to each age group.
Through Oct. 17, donations

The city of Denton will con-
duct a public decommissioning
ceremony for the Eureka play-
ground at 1 p.m. Saturday at
South Lakes Park.
Those who were involved
with the original Eureka build in
1995 will be on hand to talk
about the history of the play-
ground and share the vision of
the new Eureka 2 park.
Since Eureka opened, some
wooden features have become
dilapidated and the cost of
maintenance continues to in-
crease.
The new Eureka 2 will have
the same expansive feel, but will
be made of recycled materials
that will be durable, earth-
friendly and virtually mainte-
nance free.
Volunteers will begin con-
struction on the new play-
ground on Oct. 21-23. A volun-
teer sign-up booth will be avail-
able during the ceremony.

The vehicle ended up in an
open field on the south side of
Knight Lane. Economedes said
that when firefighters arrived on
scene, the boy was already out of
the vehicle. It was unclear if he
got himself out or if bystanders
helped him. The father was still
stuck in the vehicle and had to
be extricated by emergency per-
sonnel.
Economedes said the frill ex-
tent of their injuries is unknown.
The father was transported
by helicopter to Texas Health
Harris Methodist Hospital in

en by helicopter to Cook Chil-
