Man charged with DWI after
alleged hit-and-run
A 23-year-old man was ar-
rested early Tuesday morning
and charged with driving while
intoxicated after police say he hit
the Econo Cleaners building in
the 700 block of East Sherman
Drive and fled the scene.
Police initially received a call
about a hit-and-run at 2:27 a.m.
and determined the driver hit
the building when no one was
around. Police said in the report
that the suspect did not take rea-
sonable steps to notify the prop-
erty owner or manager of the
building. He did not leave a no-
tice with his name, address or
his vehicle registration number,
the report said.
Police eventually located the
suspect and made an arrest. He
was taken to Denton City Jail
and faces a DWI charge. He was
also charged with duty on strik-
ing a fixture or highway land-
scape, greater than $200.
Other reports
300 block of West Eagle
Drive — Police found three
people in possession of a metal
marijuana pipe and a small
amount of marijuana Tuesday
afternoon after a caller initially
reported they were smoking
methamphetamine behind a
trash bin at a QuikTrip conve-
nience store.
Police issued a citation for
possession of drug parapherna-
lia and issued all three a notice of
criminal trespass. No arrests
were made.
1000 block of Fort Worth
Drive — The brick wall in the
back of Grand Liquor had been
breached sometime early Tues-
day morning before burglars took
about 60 bottles of liquor from
the stockroom, according to a po-
lice report and a store manager.
The manager, who did not
want to be identified, said the
burglars left a large hole in the
brick and stole various bottles of
whiskey and vodka.
No arrests were made at the
time of the report.
1300 block of Greenbriar
Street — An 86-year-old wom-
an claimed she was scammed
Tuesday night after someone
called her saying she needed to
bail her grandson out of jail, ac-
cording to a police report.
She said she realized it was a
scam when the suspect asked for
payment in the form of a Target
gift card, the report said. No ar-
rests were made.
2700 block of Roselawn
Drive — A 56-year-old man
told police late Tuesday night
that his cash and Lone Star card,
a government assistance debit
card, were stolen after he lent
both to an unidentified woman.
The man also reported his
new cellphone was missing.
The man told police he gave
the cash and Lone Star card to
the woman after she agreed to
purchase items he needed for his
home, according to the report.
The woman later claimed she
was robbed and did not return
with the items, cash or card, the
report said.
Police took a theft report, and
no arrests were made.

Battalion reports a former stu-
dent invited Richard Spencer to
speak. Spencer is head of a group
called the National Policy Insti-
tute and a leader of a movement
seen as a mix of racism, white na-
tionalism and populism. His
speech last weekend in Wash-
ington, D.C., at an alt-right con-
ference drew Nazi-style salutes
from audience members.
University officials say Spen-

core values. But officials say peo-

irrespective of their message.
