Last Wednesday, the D-FW area’s average high temperature
rose from 96 to 97 degrees, and it will stay there through
Aug. 17. Gradually, that average high will drop to 94 by the
end of August. So far, the D-FW area has reached the centu-
ry mark eight times this summer.
An average summer will bring 18100-degree days. But that
won’t happen this week. The upper ridge that brought heat
advisories last week has shifted to the west. With that
pattern change, temperatures will be below normal this
next week.

HOW CAN I RESERVE SPACE
IN THE COMMUNITY GARDEN?
Inspired by similar bikes in Sweden
and Denmark, Denton resident
Aaron Powell created a bicycle
with a cart on the front meant to
carry children. His company, Urban
Tribe Cargo Bicycles, has begun
selling the bikes online.
Reserving a plot costs $20 and requires you to sign an
agreement with Denton Parks and Recreation.
The community garden is located in Bowling Green Park
in northwest Denton.
However, to reserve a plot,
you must drop by the
parks office in the Denton
Civic Center, 321E. McKin-
ney St., during regular
business hours.
The plots are reserved
on a first-come, first-served
basis. Some plots measure
about 140 square feet; larger plots are 225 square feet.
The parks department requires gardeners to clear their
spot by Nov. 30 each year. A crew will disk the soil before
planting, but gardeners are responsible for prepping the soil
for planting, including adding compost or other amendments.
Gardeners aren’t permitted to set up sprinklers or timers.
Only hand-watering is allowed.
For more information, go to the parks website by visiting
http://bit.ly/2tQMgiL, or call the parks office at 940-349-7275.
