A discussion of the effectiveness
of Denton ISD’s grading policy
was on the agenda for Tues-
day’s school board meeting.
Under the district’s current
policy, students can redo major
tests or papers within 10 days of
the due date if they attend
tutoring. Students are not
graded on daily work or home-
work, nor are their grades
docked for behavioral issues.

ttlt has been hard on some
college freshmen who have
not had the rigor in high
school needed in order to be
prepared. I teach at a uni-
versity, and some students
struggle with not being
allowed more than one
chance at an assignment,
opting to not turn in home-
work and failing, losing
points for excessive absenc-
es, and for not being able to
comprehend policies and
procedures.
