QRate remains 89 cents,
Harbor lease rates
increase by five percent
Aransas Pass Independent School District Trustees
on Monday approved a two-cent tax Increase.
The Increase — effective immediately — raises the
rate from $1,455 per $100 evaluation to $1,475 per
$100 evaluation. Maintenance and operation makes
up the bulk of the rate at $1,195 while debt service
adds 28 cents. Trustee Charles Hamrick opposed the
rate.
“I will be voting against It due to the fact that I’m In
favor of the five percent pay Increase (for teachers), but
I’m opposed to the additional one percent Increase,"
Hamrick said of an across-the board pay Increase of
six percent passed at the August board meeting. The
original pay Increase proposal called for a five-percent
rise and a $700-$ 1.000 stipend for teachers living In
the district.
“My vote will be no for that reason and that reason
only."
Trustees passed the rate by a 4-1 vote with Hamrick
dissenting. Board member Fred Deases was not pre-
sent.
Faulk and Kieberger Elementary Schools will likely
receive some renovations in early 1997. Both schools
need roof and air conditioning repair, according to
Superintendent Bob Smith. Cost estimates could be
available at the October school board meeting. Smith
said.
Enrollment In APISD Is at 2,296 as of September 4.
