The Weatherford High School
Band plans to leave at 8:00 Satur-
day, May 7 for the contest at
North Texas State College.
The Band will play three num-
bers in the concert part of the
contest. They are: “Love’s Own
Sweet Song March”, arranged by
Paul Yoder; “Water Music Suite”
by George Frederick Handel; and
"‘Folk Song Suite” by R. Vaughan
Williams.
. The band will warm up at 11:00
and 12:00. They expect to return
by 3:00 P. M.
The girls’ Athletic Association
met Wednesday morning April 27.
rThe G. A. A. guest speaker was
Mrs. Addie Long, beauty culturist.
She cut Ann Todd’s hair to dem-
onstrate the importance of well
groomed hair and she also dem-
onstrated how to apply cosmetics
for different shaped faces.
Library Club Has
Weiner Roast
The Library Club-had a wiener
roast, Thursday night, April 21 at
the home of Louise Gandee. Nine
members, five guests and Miss
Juanita Davis were present.
The club had a regular business
meeting Monday, April 18. The
club members decided to bring
cookies, candy, and cakes to be
sold Monday, May 2, at homeroom
period. “Everyone is urged to sup-
port this bake sale,” said Miss
Davis, sponsor.
Assembly Program
Weatherford High School’s Fri-
day morning assembly was pre-
sented by Miss May Belle Whisett's
homeroom. Russell Colgin served
as master of ceremonies through-
out the program.
The “Happy Wanders” a boys
quartet consisting of Jerry McFer-
rin, Maury Pentecost, Joe Tison,
and Donald Thomas sang Tison,
songs. A girls trio composed of
Linda Merritt, Gail Bowden, and
Gale Malone sang “Hands Across
the Table”. “The Texas Tumblers”
composed of three Weatherford
High School students and two
Weatherford Junior College stu-
dents sang several hillbilly songs.

Interesting Meeting
In a recent meeting of the Math
Club it was decided to invite Lt.
Eugene R, Saleh, an engineer
from Carls well Air Force Base, to
speak to the club at their next
meeting. All club members and
any other student of WHS who
are interested in math or engi-
neering is invited to this meeting.
At this meeting of the Math
’Club a program was: brought by
four members of the club. They
each discussed a topic from a
General Electric Bullentin. The
topics were; "Why Stick to Your
Studies?” “Why Work?” “Why
Study English?” and “Why
Read?”
The Texas Drifters
Appear On Television
W. H. S. received recognition
Saturday, April, 23, as the local
school string band, “The Texas
Drifters”, appeared before T. V.
viewers on the 12:00 Doc Rhumann
show, Channel 5, Fort Worth. The
T. V. appearance was a follow-up
for their placing first in, an F. F. A.
amateur contest held in Arlington
“The Drifters”, Wesley Curtis,
Jimmy Galbreaith and Richard
Stevens, were only one of the nine
groups who participated in the
contest. Wesley and Richard sang
“Poison Love” and Jimmy played
“Guitar Boogie” for the introduc-
tion numbers while Wesley sang
“That’s All Right” for the contest
number. The troup was accom-
panied to and from the appearance
by F.F.A. instructor, Sam Skiles.
“The Drifters” have played in
Juior and Senior High assemblies,
for College dances and community
singings.

day night, April 23, 1955.

of Cowboys”. The nominee for the
Junior Class was Bobby Wallis,
while Wayland Wright, took honors
as being the Senior Class candi-
date.
Decorations for the party were
of a western theme in elaborate
scenes of western culture.
The program for the party in-
cluded a Western skit, “The Shoot-
ing of Dan McGrew” The cast

At Sunday Tea
In observance of National Mu-
sic Week, members of the W.H.S.
Chorus, their parents, and faculty
members were honored at a tea
Sunday, May 1st in the home of
the Chorus president, Barbara
Nell Bounds.
Yellow and blue daisies were
used to carry out the chorus col-
ors of gold and blue. Pineapple
sherbert and cookies were served
to the sixty guests who called
during the afternoon.
Colita Williamson presided at
the punch bowl and Sandra Little
at the guest book.
Music was provided by Misses:
Margaret Martsolf, Myrna Dean,
and Nancy Wiggs.
