Purser Chosen Line Coach
Coach Bill Purser, Weatherford’s
new line coach from Lamesa, is
busy with the other WHS coaches
in preparation for spring training.
Coach Purser began >his coaching
career at Llano High School where
he was head coach for three years.
Then he took a line coaching job
at Lamesa last year.
At Trent High School, Coach
Purser played in the backfield be-
cause he said with a griu, “I was
little then.”
When high school grid days were
over, Coach Purser attended ACC
where he played offensive guard
and defensive tackle. In 1948, he
was captain of his team and made
second team all-conference.

Three Track Meets
Prove WHS Ready
The Southwestern Exposition
track meet held at Fort Worth
March 6 and 7 found the WHS
track team in good shape.
Clarence, 880 man, qualified for
the finals and took fifth place. Ar-
thur tied with seven others for-the
finals with 53 seconds in the 440
dash.
The eight boys drew beans with
numbers on them from a hat.
Number “12” would return for the
finals. Arthur drew number “2.”
He said that was the closest he’d
ever been to returning for the fi-
nals at the Southwestern Exposi-
tion Meet.
WHS lhas participated in two oth-
er track meets, one with Arlington
Heights, Fort Wox’th, and the other
with Stephenville, March 11 and
13 respectively. Coach Brownlee
said that the team made a good
showing at both meets.

Real Tracksters
We have some Real Tracksters
in our high school. Two of these
boys are Arthur Stockstill and
Clarence Culwell.
Last year and this year, Clar-
ence has been the only WHS
trackster to make the finals in the
Southwestern Exposition meet
held annually in Fort Worth. He
took fifth in the finals this year.
Clarence holds two records
which he hopes to break this year.
He set the Possum Kingdom Re-
ing for the tourney. A doff of ye

Spring Training
To Begin April 6
April 6 is the date set for “lea-
ther to begin popping” on the grid
iron.
Coach Purser said that a dif-
ferent system will be used this
year. He said, “All boys have new
and different things to learn, so
the new boys will have the same
opportunity to make the team as
the old ones.”
He also said, “The majority of
spring training will consist of in-
dividual work on the fundamen-
tals of football, and all high school
boys are extended an invitation to
participate.”
The three coaches for WHS’s ’53
and ’54 grid season are Russell
Coffee, head coach, Herb Zim-
merman and Bill Purser, line
coaches.

relay team. His sophomore letter
came from his being on the mile
relay team.
Arthur lettered again as a jun-

events he participated in at the
district meet. He took first in the
440 setting the district record at
51.9, fourth in the 220, and second
