SHL to gather views at mock hearing
South Plains representatives
to the second Texas Silver Hair- -
ed Legislature will conduct a
mock public hearing September
9 from 10 a.m. to noon at the
South Plains Association of
Governments, 1323 58th Street,
Lubbock.
The hearing will allow the
public and elected officials to
have a say and possible influ-
ence on issues of concern to the
elderly when the Silver Haired
Legislature convenes in Austin
Sept. 19-22.
'The South Plains Silver Hair-
ed Legislators — Manuel Ayers
of Plainview, Dolly Brown - of
Slaton,, Bill Eubanks of Lubbock
and Fern Maddera of Levelland
— will welcome testimony, both
formal and informal, on issues
ranging from, health care and
insurance to housing and future
funding for aging programs.
In addition to the mock pub-
lic hearing, awards will be pre-
sented to each of the Silver
Haired Legislators.
All 116 Texas Silver Haired
Legislators attended planning
sessions in Austin in August, at
which time members ^were ap-
pointed to committees.
Ayers was appointed to the
utilities and natural resources
committee: Brown was appoin-
ted to the health and human
resources committee; Eubanks
was appointed to the insurance
committee: and Maddera was
appointed to the state affairs
committee, where she will serve
as secretary.
The Silver Haired Legisla-
ture, established by the 69th
Texas Legislature, is an elected
non-partisan body of senior citi-
zens whose purpose is to draft
and propose suggested legisla-
tion for consideration by the
Texas Legislature in 1989

celebrate 25th anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Andy Elliott celebrated their 25th wedding
anniversary on Tuesday.
Elliott and the former Janet Johnson were married on Aug,
30, 1963 in the Tumertown Baptist Church of Tumertown, an
oilfield community east of Tyler. At the time of their marriage,
they were attending Lamar University in Beaumont.
The Elliotts came to Levelland in August, 1986 when he
accepted the position of minister of music with the First Baptist
Church. She will teach second grade at West Elementary this
year, having taught the past two years in the Whitharral school
district.
They have two children - Dawn, a freshman student at South
Plains College, and David, a sophomore at Levelland High
School.
Rho Lambda held a luncheon
on Aug. 27 for Beginning Day
with 25 people present.^'

The couple will marry on Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. in the Johnson
Street Church of Christ jn San Angelo.
Following the wedding, the couple will live in San Angelo to
continue their education at Angelo State University. The bride-
elect is a junior speech major, and the prospective groom is a
senior majoring in physical education and science.
