Helps Existing, New Industries
Olney Industrial Development Cor-
poration, the city of Olney arm that
operates from the half-cent city sales tax
to help local industries grow and to
attract new industries presented their
annual budget to the city council during
the November 24 council meeting.
The budget includes anticipated re-
ceipts of $97,500 during October 1992
through September 1993 period. Antici-
pated disbursements during this period
amounted to $73,027, leaving some
$24,473 available to be used to entice an
industrial prospect That would not be
all the funds available as the OIDC
began the new fiscal year with a bank
balance of $55,451. If the anticipated
income and expenditures should be
accurate, it would mean the total avail-
able at the end of September 1993 for
industrial use would be $79,924.

There will be plenty of activities
downtown Saturday. The 1992 Young
County Pecan Show is going to be held
in Olney, in the vacant building next to
Hughey’s on East Main. In addition to
the pecan show, chairman Tom Moore
has obtained some huge nuts that will be
on display. In order to find what kind
they are, you will have to go to the show.
There should be a picture of these nuts
along with some regular size pecans in
today’s paper.
The BrazosBelles are sponsoring
their “Anything With Beef Cookoff’
Saturday. Spectators can usually pur-
chase samples of the various dishes
entered in the cookoff, so bring some

supplies are of utmost importance for in-
clusion in the container. Members of the
Olney Ministerial Alliance have ac-
cepted the responsibility for gathering
and storing these items until enough
materials is received to fill the con-
tainer. For information contact the

Gary Torian at First United Methodist
Church.
Individuals or families interested in
filling, or helping fill, one of the food
boxes should know what is recom-
mended for each box. These include five
pounds each of flour, sugar, pasta, rice,
powdered milk and canned meat, a can

FmHA Rep Here To
Discuss Pipe Fund
Olney city council handled their brief
agenda quickly Tuesday, Nov. 24 be-
fore going into executive session.
City administrator Jack Northrup told
the council that representatives of Farm-
ers Home Administration will be in
Olney December 3 to discuss the con-
tract between the FmHA for funds to be
used to construct the emergency pipe-
line between Lake Cooper and Lake
Kickapoo. Northrup said it was his
understanding that following the dis-
cussion, FmHA expects the city to sign
a proceed order, which is the next step in
funding the project.
The other agenda item handled was
approval of a proposed 1992-93 fiscal
year budget of die Olney Industrial
Development Corporation, which is an
operation of the city. The OIDC re-
ceives the half cent sales tax collected
monthly and uses the funds to attract
industry or help existing industry ex-
pand.
Saturday Activities
Downtown Olney will be busy Saturday with the BrazosBelles CatdeWomen
“Anything With Beef Cookoff”, the 1992 Young County Pecan Show, and arrival
of Santa Claus again in the Christmas Parade.
Anything With Beef Cookoff will be held on the vacant lot at Main and Grand.
Spectators will be able to purchase samples of the cookoff entries from the partici-
pants.
Annual pecan show will be held in the vacant building just east of Hugheys on
East Main Street and is open to the public.
CowPatty Bingo will also be sponsored by the BrazosBelles on the vacant lot.
Annual parade will start at 3 p.m. from the Library and move east on Main Street
to Avenue A. There are about 30 entries in this year’s parade.
Anything With Beef
Cookoff In Morning
BrazosBelles CatdeWomen are spon-
soring the “Anything With Beef’
cookoff Saturday, Dec. 5 in Downtown
Olney.
There will be two divisions this year.
One division is for a prime cut of beef
and the other division is for an economy
cut of beef. You may bring your cooker
downtown or cook at home. Make some
extra money by selling to the public or
just cook for the judges.
Three cash prizes will be awarded. A
$75 first place will be awarded in each
cooking division and a $75 showman-
ship will be awarded.
Entrants will have a $10 entry fee.
There will also be a $10 food booth fee
for those selling food but not in compe-
tition.
They will also sponsor a Cow-Patty
Bingo. The money made from the bingo
will send three students to college with
a $500 scholarship from the Brazos-
Belles. Contact a member of the Brazos
Belles for your $25 square, and you
could walk away with $500 in your
pocket.

Temperatures Stay
Well Below Normal
Below normal temperatures were
recorded during the past week, but no
additional moisture was reported. High
for the week was 58 degrees Tuesday
while the overnight low was 25 degrees
Friday.

County Pecan Show
Young County 1992 Pecan Show will
be held Saturday, Dec. 5, in Olney.
Pecan entries should be turned in by 5
p.m. Thursday to the Olney Board of
Industry and Commerce on Main Street
in Olney or if it is more convenient,
pecans may be brought on or before
December 3 to the Young County
Extension Office, lower floor of the
Young County Courthouse in Graham.
Pecans will be processed Friday and
the entries will be judged at 9 a.m. Sat-
urday morning.
The 1992 show will be held at 107
East Main in the vacant building next to
Hugheys in Olney. Judge for this year’s
show will be Jody Worthington, horti-
culturist with the Texas Agricultural
Experiment Station in Stephenville.
Tom Moore of Olney will serve as chair-
man of the 1992 Pecan Show.
Growers must exhibit pecans from
their own trees which were grown in
1992. Growers are limited to one entry
of each named variety. A grower may
enter as many pedlings, known hybrids
or natives as he or she wishes. Each
entry must consist of a minimum of 40
pecans, however 42 is preferred.
Champion and reserve champion
exhibitors in the three pecan divisions
will receive pecan wood plaques.
Christmas Parade At 3
Olney’s 1992 “Reason for the Sea-
son” Christmas parade is set for 3 p.m.
this Saturday, Dec. 5, with a large
number of entries signed up to partici-
pate. Sherry Altmiller’s Our Beginning
School is the float added last week
bringing to 16 floats signed-up. In addi-
tion to the floats are eight marching units

visit Tuesday night at the BIC office. He will be back in town Saturday in the
annual Christmas Parade.

Tonemah and Sharon DeLong.
Parade chairman, Becky King, asks
that all those participating meet at 1:30
p.m. at the high school field house (enter
at 801 W. Hamilton) to line up and
judging will begin there. The parade
will progress north on Avenue J, to Main
Street, and east on Main to the Am West
parking lot. Judging will continue along
the parade route.
Included among the parade entries are
Olney Nursing Center, First Baptist
Church, Hamilton Hospital, Thunder-
bird Twirling Corps, from Sheppard Air
Force Base the Precision Drill Team, the
Drum and Bugle Corps, a 50 State Flag
Corps, the Weapons Drill Team and the
Blue Falcon Choir.
Others are Seven Oaks Nursing
Home, First National Bank, Southside
Baptist Church, Olney Cub Scouts,
Junior High Cheerleaders, Lioness
Club, Olney High School Marching
Band, St Theresa’s Catholic Church
and Olney Assembly of God Church.
Also Megargel Elementary School,
the Olney 4-H Club, Ben Buerger of
Archer City, Camp Fire Girls, Doyle
Sloan of Newcastle, First United Meth-
odist Church Youth Group, Early Child-
hood Development Group with Betsy
Suenram, AmWest Savings Associa-
tion and Our Beginning School with
Sherry Altmiller.
Enterprise Will
Take Santa Letters
Oiney Enterprise will again act as
Santa’s helper by accepting and pub-
lishing “Letters to Santa Claus” this
Christmas season. Santa Claus was in
town Tuesday night and will be here
again Saturday in the Christmas Parade.
