Men and Ladies
Yes it is still bad weather,
cloudy and raining E.stelle and
Lin have gone to hunt a cow
one that wasn’t with the bunch
she has began feeding the cows
hay she said they really went
into it she bought some good
looking hay at $35.00 a hundred
bales. Pat, with his girl friend,
come awhile Sunday. We didn’t
go to church Sunday Estelle
went with Harley and Ophelia
they got back at Estelle’s about
12 then this morning Estelle and
me went to See about Ophelia
she was doing fine. Harley was
so glad to have her home, she
said I ate a big breakfast Harley
made some good biscuits and I
really enjoyed them, she said the
most thing I want is a good
drink out of our well.
We seen Darris and family as
we went to church last night,
they had thrashed some pecan
trees and had pickel them up,
I haven’t talked to any of them
today they have been making
good.
Estelle baked some of the po-
tatoes that we brought her from
Harris’ today they was good but
not as what we got from Ruby
French. I got a letter from our
cousin, Ben Smith.
Estelle and Lin found the cow
and a little black Angus bull,
that’s 2 little calves for her and
5 more cows yet to find calves.
Her cows are really fat she real-
ly has a good pasture. Harley
said he fed 5 yearling calves he
wanted to sell when Ophelia gets
stronger.
I went to the Dr. today he
said I was doing just fine and I
didn’t need a shot and to keep
up my medicine and come back
in a month or 6 weeks for which
I am so proud. I sent that pic-
ture that Ben Smith wanted, it
was a picture of his dad and
mother and al,l the children but
one, it was taken when Ben was
the baby. I hope he gets it o.k.
Robert Keys come out a while
he brought some mint candy it
was real good. I told Estelle be-
it didn’t mean I could run and
jump I am eating without salt
I can go it pretty good, of course
I have garlic salt and some
things I dont’ need salt. Estelle
and Doris both cook dry black-
eyed peas and put a little piece
of salt jowl in them and no more
salt and they are just fine.
Lin hasn’t killed a deer yet
he has gone several; times with
different ones. I don’t think
there has been very many killed
around here Lin went Saturday
night and one of the boys he
was with killed one just as they
were leaving. I sure wish Lin
could get one we all like vinson
meat, especially steak. And now
we have the sweet potatoes to
go with it.
When we was in town I was
sitting in the car and a man
stopped right beside me I
thought I knew who he was, he
was Mr. Will McNutt, he like
myself has aged a lot but still
we like to see others. Lola and
Edward came to see us Saturday
I sure was glad to see them. We
hear from Mary ever now and
then she is still in the hospital
in Marlin. Cecil is sure getting
anxious to stay at home but
when Mary comes they are go-
ing to need someone to stay
there as Cecil don’t cook and
Mary will not be able to cook.
Now with Harley and Ophelia
there’s no worry because Harley
can cook as well as any woman.
So can both of my boys when
they are at home and Oran was
a cook in the Air Corps. Any-
way they both can cook and
wash the dishes or keep house
as good as any woman.
Oran’s wife said she couldn’t
cook or do anything in the
kitchen when I married and Oran

learned her to do all of it. He
bought me a machine to sew and
I got material and patterns and
I learned to sew and she is really
proud of herself. She makes any-
thing she wants to just get her
