No. 906 Date: June 8, 1973
AVIONICS Major General Tom Morgan, Commander, Kirtland AFB,
BRIEFINGS and others visited Fort Worth operation on May 30
for a general orientation and capability presenta-
tion on electronic missions. He was well pleased with the information he
received.
F-111C The first six F-lllCs arrived at Amberley, Australia
on June 1. The ceremony, including a fly-by, was
attended by high ranking officers of the RAAF and governmental officials.
TEST-TO- The first flight of FB-llA No. 3, following its
TACTICAL test-to-tactical update, was made May 21. It is
scheduled to be delivered to the Air Force by
June 11.
MULTIPLE OFFSET Modification of the first deployed F-llA was made
AIMING POINT on May 16. Modification of all the deployed F-lllA
aircraft is expected to be completed during June.
YF-16 The sled test article which will be tested at
Holloman AFB is being used for reliability testing
of the canopy and seat ejection pyrotechnics. All eight firings made to
date have been successful.
As of June 1, the vertical fin box graphite composites skins, drilling of
the fin box structures to accept the skins, installation of inner skins
in the engine compartment of the aft fuselage and installation of skin to
the wing box have been completed.
SPACE LAUNCH We have received the go-ahead on the production
SYSTEMS of five sets of explosive separation systems for
the Atlas-Centaur and three for the Titan-Centaur.
Fort Worth is also producing the insulation panels and nose fairing for the
Atlas-Centaur.
AMAVS A seven-month extension of the detail design and
fabrication phases of the AMAVS program has been
negotiated. This extends the program to December 1976.
COMPOSITES Negotiations have been completed on an R&D contract
to study and develop materials and methods required
to manufacture low cost composite tooling for shell-type structures. This
concept is an outgrowth of the procedures used for the composite F-5 fuselage.
