THE KATE BROOCKS BATES AWARD
FOR HISTORICAL RESEARCH
$2,000
The Kate Broocks Bates Award-established by the late Kate Har-
ding Bates Parker and her sister Clara Elisabeth Bates-Nisbet in honor
of their mother-will be granted annually for a significant piece of
historical research dealing with any phase of Texas, its history, the lives
and accomplishments of Texans or of an individual Texan prior to 1900.
More recent history may be included if it is clearly related to the research
about the earlier years. Other aspects of the entries being equal,
preference will be given to subjects dating from the period of the Republic
or from the pre-Republic years.
Submissions must be of book length and must have been published
within two years immediately preceding February 19 of the year of the
award. Submissions must be well researched and documented. The for-
mat of the work should follow the Manual of Style (13th ed., University
of Chicago) or a comparable style guide.
Five copies should be mailed before December 31, 1987, one copy
to each of the following:
Three judges
The Library of the Daughters of the Republic
Mrs. Elisabeth Bates-Nisbet
Addresses will be supplied upon request.
The Award will be presented at the Association's Annual Meeting
in March. Should the judges decide that no entry meets the requirements
