Eight Buck Seniors
Close Football Season
Against Shamrock
by Wes Rogers
White Deer Fighting Bucks
ended their football season
by being handed a defeat on
the Shamrock Irish home
turf Friday night.
The Bucks only had a total
of 229 yards to the Irish's
total of 533.
Stuart Miller seemed to
pace the Irish for the win.
He scored from 10 and 9
yards out.
Jessie Salinas was also a
main factor for the home-
team. He rushed for 179
yards with just 14 takes of
the ball and one touchdown
from 10 yards out.
Chris Darrow and Guy
Champaign each added
another score. Both from
the one yard line.
Senior lineman Russell
Waters accounted for all
the point after touchdowns
except one and two field
goals coming in the second
and third quarters, shutting
the Bucks out 40-0.
Shamrock ended their
season with a 4-5-1 and 2-3
in league play while W. D.
finished 0-9-1 and 0-5.
Eight seniors, Ricky
Swaney, Lloyd Bohannon,
Alan Weese, David Kalka,
Richard Sturgill, Shane
Grange, Jerold McCown
and Dennis Tollison saw
final action in this 1979
season of football action.
Anyone interested in
watching the district 2-A
champions of Panhandle
in bi-district competition
will play at Borger Bull-
dog Stadium with the
Stratford Elks, 1-A Champs
Friday night.

Show Paintings
At County Museum
A colorful art exhibit of
20 abstract and impression-
istic paintings by Len
Slesick is on display at the
Carson County Square House
Museum in Freedom Hall.
Bom in Chicago, Slesick
moved to Amarillo in 1965.
He does most of his paint-
ings in his spare time.
"Painting is becoming more
and more an advocation",
he said.
Slesick has been painting
landscapes and portraits for
over 10 years. Preferring
the control it affords over
any medium, he prefers

with 12 points each. Other
members on the team are
Trena Ruthardt, Tami
McCown, Kala Haiduk,
Kandy Mynear, Jacque
Burns, Terry Owens and
Denise Urbanczyk. Head
Coach is Al Lemons and
assisted by Lenora Oatman.
J. V. team roster includes
Melissa Terry, Janet Tim-
mons, Troyce May, Debbie
Burns, Dala Langston,
Dianna Freeman, Christy
Frost, Jan Kerbo, Tammy
Barnes, Karla Kotara,

with 11.
Final scores for the games
were Gruver 74, White
Deer 47 and J. V. Gruver
37, White Deer 22.
The next games is slated
against Lefors here Nov.
27 with all four teams
participating, A and B

Downtown Pep Rally
Held Fri. Afternoon
Friday afternoon was
the highlight of the week
in view of school activities
as the last pep rally of
the year was held down-
town in preparation for
winding up football season
for 1979.
Students, teachers,
coaches, team members
and bandsmen marched
downtown on the bright
sunny afternoon for the
traditional ceremonies held
at the deer.
Buck Cheerleaders Della
Satterwhite, Terry Owens,
Trena Ruthardt, Troyce
May and Rose Williams
led the group in yells. In-
vited to participate in
downtown activities were
Skellytown Cheerleaders
Marijane Ramirez, Debra

Teams Place First
In District Contest
The White Deer FFA
Chapter Senior Conducting
team along with the Junior
Chapter team took first
place at district competition
at Clarendon Junior College
November 12.
The Quiz Team placed
second and all three teams
qualified to enter the area
competition at Tulia.

Skellytown City
Council Discusses
Annual Budget
The Skellytown City
Council held their bi-
monthly meeting Tuesday
at City Hall with six in
attendance.
Mayor P. M. Cousins
presided at the meeting
along with city secretary
Mrs. Edna Chaney and
aidermen Larry Brown,
Howard Coday, M. L.
Giesler and Wayne Pogue
attending.
Items discussed were the
annual city budget and
repair of water lines.
The Councilmen also voted
for representative to the
Carson County Tax Ap-
praisal Board. The date
for the annual Christmas
Party was set for Dec. 11
City Office To Be Closed
The City Office will be
closed Thursday and Friday
so that the city employees
may enjoy the holidays
with their families. In case

YAC Chapters
To Swim-for-Life
This Saturday, November
24 at Groom the three YAC
Chapters will sponsor the
County wide Swim-for -Life
benefit at Groom High
School Swimming Pool. The
event will start at 10 a.m.
Co-Chairmen of the
White Deer High School
YAC Chapter are Linda Kay
Nunn and Lori Grange.
David Britten is the Groom
chairman and Charla Vance
serves as Panhandle chairman
The Youth Against Cancer
is popularly called YAC
and is affiliated with the
Texas Division of the
American Cancer Society.
Students in the three high
schools may contact the
members of their YAC
Chapters for contestant
forms.

52nd Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Eddie
Kalka celebrated their
52nd Wedding Anniversary,
Thursday, November 15
in their country home.
Chips and dips along with
a midnight luncheon were
served to Mr. and Mrs.

Tena Haiduk, Mr. and Mrs.
Dallas Wyatt, Mr. and Mrs.
Tel Haiduk, Mr. and Mrs.

Lions Club Has
Guest Programs
Mrs. Sue Hinkley was
guest speaker for the White
Deer Lion's Club meeting,
Tuesday night, November 6
in the White Deer Cafeteria.
She spoke on the history of
Old Tascosa.
Seven students from Linda
Germany's School of Dance
presented the program for
Tuesday, November 13.
Christy Frost, Karla Kotara
and Amy Dominguez per-
formed a jazz dance to the
song of "Dance". Jacque
Burns, Lisa Hodge and
Kandy Mynear did a disco
hustle number to "Night
Fever". Solo numbers in-
cluded an acrobatic dance
by Debbie Swaney and
three disco jazz numbers
by Amy Dominguez, Jacque
Burns and Christy Frost.
Markham Waddill and the
Lions Club members ex-
pressed their appreciation
for these local programs
and would like for more
local programs to be given.
Brant McCullough
Services Held At
Baptist Church ,
Services were held Saturday,
November 16 at 2:30 p. m.
in the First Baptist Church
for Brant Shea McCullough,
15 month old son of Mr. and
Mrs. Frank McCullough.
Rev. Jim Shamburger, pastor
officiated, he was assisted
by Rev. Milton Thompson,
pastor of the Skellytown
Baptist Church. Burial was
in Memory Gardens, Pampa.
Brant was born July 24,
1978 tat Pampa and died
Friday morning at his home
at 702 Daffodill in White
Deer after a lengthy illness.
Survivors include his
parents; grandparents, Mr.
and Mrs. Leroy Allen of
Skellytown and Mrs. Beden
McCullough of Hope, Ark.;
great-grandparents, Mrs.
George Allen of Camargo,
Oklahoma, Mr. J. W.
Secrest of Hope, Ark. and
Mrs. W. C. Brandon of
Oklahoma City, Okla.
Active Bearers were Jerry
Steed and Larry Gilbert.
Honorary Bearers were

were taken to the Sheriff's •
Department in Panhandle
for questioning and in-
vestigation by local Deputy
Warren Hart and Mayor
Virgil James after they
received several calls by
White Deer residents late
Sunday night.
