on the mountain aide, and sit on some
logs around a great fire. It was a
fine sight. Hundreds of people ,all
pleasure bent, Sitting out there in the
woods, .just ruady for any kind of
amusement. In the glow of the camp
fire it looked like I imagine it used
to look when the “goblins” got out
and started their nightly revels. On
the opposite side of the big fire was
a platform or stage. The master of
ceremonies would come ' out on the
stage, and have att of us to sing to-
gether. Yes, I sang. I could sing in
those hills—I just naturally wanted to
sing. After half hour of community
singing we were entertained by a
show of 'some kind on the stage. It
was always gold. No two camps did
the things alike. Every camp was
differently constructed, their shows
were different, and their songs were
different.
I shall never forget the closing of
one mouptarin-side entertainment. It
was on the banks, almost of the Yel-
lowstone lake. The leader came to the
platform and asked the audience to
-repeat these words, “The sun has gone
from the mountain, from the lake, and
from the sky, God rules, and all Is
. well,” and bowed her head. We all I
idid'that. Just at that instant tvom n
; mountain peak across the valley there
came the notes of the bugle, ' Taps
was heard. We listened in silence, and
then when the last note died away
we arose and went to our little cabin*.
God ruled and all was well. God had
made that land, and we saw it just
as it came from the hands of the
creator, not scarred by the hand of
man. •
We spent a night and part of a day
at each camp. When our bosses
would bring us into a L«mp we
would find a great company of young
ladies and gentlemen on the ’ ~~
porches singing us.p-.Welcome,
sang many of their college
their c^thp songs, the old time songs.
It certainly did cheer the weary trav-
elers on their way. mey sang to us
when we went away, and there was
always a feeling of sadness at these
partings. We didn’t know the young
folks who entertained us, but we felt
"at home” and were sorry to say
goodbye . ,
We saw a great mountain in the
park near Mammoth Camp which is
said to be filled with coal. The story
goes that one of the great railroads
has offered thirty million dollars just
for the coal within this huge hill.
The government said no, it is not for
sale. '
Leaving the Park we next found
ourselves at Salt Lake Cjty, Utah.
The stroy of the place alono would re-
quire a long article. We canot tell
you about it this time. We saw the
wonderful temple of the Mormons,
and the great tabernacle, which it
seems all the world has heard about.
We went out h> the great Salt Lake,
and suw the people floating in the
briney wutens. We visited Kansas

A football player, if he makes the team, must keep right
up on his toes every minute during training days. He is
preparing to meet, with a better play, any play the op-
ponents may use. And then when the game starts, he
gives every ounce of strength and initiative he possesses
